Having my own fresh vegetables is so fulfilling and beneficial. You won't believe how many advantages it provides you with. There's nothing more satisfying than eating a salad you made from your own fresh garden. This book covers great knowledge about available growing mediums for hydroponically grown plants . It will also teach you all the differences between the basic Hydroponics systems and their suitability for plants, so you can have your perfect Hydroponics system. 5 stars it is.

Good introduction, but plan on getting another book before starting a hydroponic system By TechGuru101 This book is EXCELLENT as a quick introduction to hydroponics. It does a good job of introducing some of the key concepts, such as nutrients and lighting. I only gave it 3 stars because it comes up short in describing the different hydroponic systems and it only has basic instructions (no diagrams, shopping list and limited pictures) for building one type of system. I would say it was worth the $3, but would call it something like "Introduction to Hydroponics" not "The -complete- beginners guide...", "How to Hydrponics" by Keith Roberto is a good complement to this book.

Good quick book on the basics of hydroponics By Joseph Dewey I just read this book, and I'm ready to get a 5-gallon bucket and start hydroponic gardening right now. This book is a fun quick read. I think it took me about 30 minutes, and it gave me everything that I wanted to know about the introductory basics of hydroponic gardening. I've never done it before, and I was mostly curious about what you're supposed to use as a medium instead of soil. All the videos I've seen on the internet made it look like rocks, but I wasn't sure what kind of rocks. Luckily, this book focuses mostly on the growing medium, probably more than any other topic. I got my questions answered 100%.I highly recommend it if you're like I was--don't know anything about hydroponic gardening, but would like to get started.Pros:+Great introduction+Covers mediums in depth+Gives an overview of many hydroponic topics+Gets you excited about the topicCons:-Short and pretty basic

At all. But if you've ever felt like you needed to find some kind of control in your life or some way to manage your own chaos, then you *need* to read this book.Peill-Meininghaus gives us a glimpse into her crazy life in The Gnome Project. With humor and grace, she shows us that sometimes you just need to find one thing you can do each day that not only proves you truly *can* follow through with something, but also provides focus and energy into the rest of your life.This is a quick read, but and excellent one with freakin' adorable photos.

By Mrs. Art Doll Maker The Gnome Project is about one woman’s journey in creating a daily practice to get unstuck from the habit of not finishing what she starts, only to discover the many gifts it brings along the way and how it anchors your life. It’s that golden thread that weaves your days together. It becomes a comforter and a cathartic channel to purge your emotions. It is your challenger and holds you to task. In the end, it’s what you turn to and say, despite everything that happened, I accomplished this one thing today.This book was very interesting and held my attention so much so, I finished it in a day. It made me think about my own daily practices and the comforts they bring. It also inspired me to try creating my own journey for a year and see what yields from my harvest. Regardless of what daily practice you choose, her choice to make a gnome a day for a year was intriguing. There is something about gnomes that bring mystery and fun to the forefront. Definitely made the book a lot more interesting because it wasn’t filled with scientific data and jargon and blah blah blah stuff that bores you to death. Fun read. I do plan on reading it again. Hope she releases another book similar to this style.

I'm using it as a supplement to an AutoCAD class I'm taking. It has saved me because I have been able to go back to what the teacher went over that day and actually practice and learn with basic exercises, and less stress. The book has step by step instructions with corresponding pictures and there are several exercises at the end of each lesson for one to practice. To the authors, thank you for creating such a useful, easy to use workbook for us non-techies who still need to know how to use this program. I'm ordering the Advanced today.

Provides clear descriptions, and good practice exercises. Prior experience is not need in either AutoCAD or drafting/design. The book provides simple drawings to create, but does not teach technical drawing, drafting or design skills such as isometric drawings.

This is a very basic book that does a good job giving definitions of quilting lingo and the various different types of quilt tops. I was expecting more instruction and this book didn't really get in to how to make quilt squares or a quilt top. I was surprised when I got to the end of the book, thinking, "That's it?" It was like reading something on about.com only without pictures.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The Definitive Analysis of Captain America By John S. Lawrence I should disclose that I read this book in proof and wrote a blurb on the jacket. My colleague Robert Jewett and I have been thinking and writing about Captain America for several decades. This is the definitive book about the Captain's character and its many mutations, including the last decade in which Cap dropped out of the War on Terror and became a critic of of administration military policy. Stevens has worked from a vast database of comics texts, letters to the editors, and films. If you believe that you understand Captain America fully, you owe it to yourself to read this book and likely feel some embarrassment at what you didn't know. Stevens writes in a very steady, appreciative but critical voice. A model book.

I've never been a comic book fan, but I found it very interesting to read about the history of comics and especially how Captain America has evolved over time to reflect cultural values. This book is not light reading for the casually interested, though. I found the research presented to be insightful and challenging. Perhaps if I were more versed in the comic book genre, I would have understood more easily. Overall, though, a very interesting read.

As always, the opinions expressed in the following are all mine.This book is a study on Captain America throughout the decades and the different ways he is written to appeal to people during different eras. Since Captain America is often described as a perfect male specimen, there is plenty of time given the subject. How masculinity was perceived at certain times and how Cap was retconned to fit in with the day's modern views. As the title suggests, the is also a lot of time spent discussing various era's view on violence and how the comics would retcon certain details to keep the character being a hero. There are also tidbits about what was going on in the Comics industry and how it affected writers and more.It is always enjoyable for me to read studies of pop cult subjects that are written in a serious matter. The author tried to be unbiased, but at times you could tell their POV on a subject. That can be bothersome to some readers, but I didn't mind it. I did feel like the book was fairly extensive and had a great many references, which were all listed. Very appreciated.I thought it was wriiten in a way that was slightly dry at times. Since other parts of the book were better with similar subject matter I think things could be punched up a little in those areas.All said, I found it to be interesting amd enjoyable to read. I would recommend this for fans of Captain America, comics and people interested in pop culture or femininity/masculinity in entertainment.

Excellent Resource By Denise Russell Donna Lynn Thomas second Quiltmaking Essentials covers not only borders but also backings, bindings, sashings, and quilt block settings with lots of diagrams and photographs of quilts illustrating the different options. It is a wonderful resource for your library, particularly for those times when you make beautiful blocks but have no idea where to go from there.Or, let's say you like the blocks of a quilt pattern but wish you could set them another way (am I the only one?): Donna shows you options and guides you with detailed and easy-to-understand instructions. You will also learn how to calculate border width, how to sew on-point quilts, unequal size block settings, how to bind scalloped borders... You get the idea!

I took a series a quilting classes and learned to set the completed blocks on point. However, not having anything written, was a bummer. Now I can finish several more quilts on point with these easy to follow directions. Also, great directions for borders, bindings, and bindings. I felt the author, Donna Thomas, was right there in the room instructing me. GREAT BOOK!!!!

Barnaby Rudge: A Tale of the Riots of Eighty (commonly known as Barnaby Rudge) is a historical novel by British novelist Charles Dickens. Barnaby Rudge was one of two novels (the other was The Old Curiosity Shop) that Dickens published in his short-lived (1840–1841) weekly serial Master Humphrey’s Clock. Barnaby Rudge is largely set during the Gordon Riots of 1780. Barnaby Rudge was the fifth of Dickens’ novels to be published. It had originally been planned to appear as his first, but changes of publisher led to many delays, and it first appeared in serial form in the Clock from February to November 1841. Gathered round the fire at the Maypole Inn, in the village of Chigwell, on an evening of foul weather in the year 1775, are John Willet, proprietor of the Maypole, and his three cronies. One of the three, Solomon Daisy, tells an ill-kempt stranger at the inn a well-known local tale of the murder of Reuben Haredale which had occurred 22 years ago that very day. Reuben had been the owner of the Warren, a local estate which is now the residence of Geoffrey, the deceased Reuben’s brother, and Geoffrey’s niece, Reuben’s daughter Emma Haredale. After the murder, Reuben’s gardener and steward went missing and were suspects in the crime. A body was later found and identified as that of the steward, so the gardener was assumed to be the murderer.

Don't start here, but don't stop till you've read this By Russael Barnaby Rudge is an early Dickens novel, his first historical novel, of the Gordon riots of 1780, about fifty years before his time. The book is a mere 634 pages, that is, two thirds as long as Copperfield but a 100 pages longer than The Old Curiosity Shop. One of Dickens' strong points is atmosphere, and this novel is one of his best in that department. His description of the Maypole Inn and its proprietor, slow John, is marvelous. Much of the book describes the riots and their effect on various characters. Barnaby himself is an idiot, but such an excellent character for all that. The villians actually have good qualities in this book. And by the way, the Raven Grip is supposedly the model for Poe's raven. I would not start reading Dickens with Barnaby, but even though it's not as well known as ten other of his novels, I can highly recommend if you like other Dickens to give this book a read. I intend to reread it in my next round of Dickens rereading.

By Shirley Schwartz Dickens is one of my favourite authors, and I took up this book simply because I wanted to read all his books. "Barnaby Rudge", though is a little different than some of Dickens' other works. For one it's about a true historical happening. The riots of 1780 actually did occur. It's one of his shorter books, and it was written earlier on in his career. The book is really not where a reader should start with Dickens' books, but it should be read nonetheless. It still has the same great characterizations and atmosphere that we expect from Dickens, and it's still a good story. Barnaby is quite the character. We have to laugh at his antics, and Slow John at the Maypole Inn is absolutely wonderful. I read this book quite awhile ago, and while I'm writing this review, I'm thinking I need to reread it again. Wonderful atmosphere!

An action-packed historical novel By A Customer This is a well paced and fast-moving historical novel set during the anti-popery riots in London in 1780. Although not as grippingly exciting as Dicken's other historical novel, A Tale Of Two Cities, there is plenty of drama here to sustain the reader's interest.The fictional characters are well woven into the historical setting, and the portrayal of these characters gives the book some of its best comic moments, from the suave Edward Chester, to the vengeful Simon Tappertit, to the spiteful Miss Miggs, to the devious hangman, Dennis. The hero of the book is Gabriel Varden, whom Dickens repeatedly describes, rather clumsily, as "the honest locksmith". Varden has to suffer constant friction in his own household between himself, his wife, his apprentice and his maid, and this agitation reflects the agitation of the masses in the streets.One of the best features of the book is the way it successfully carries a number of plot lines. The main one of these concerns a murder committed many years previously for which no-one has been convicted. There are several other sub-plots such as the tension between the Catholic Haredale and the Protestant Chester, Joe Willet's love for Varden's daughter, the comical scheming of the apprentice locksmith against his master and the presence of a shadowy stranger who pursues Barnaby Rudge's mother. Some elements of the plot fizzle out a bit too easily towards the end, such as the attempt to kidnap Haredale's daughter, but the overall effect of the book is very satisfying.This is one of Dicken's least remembered novels, but I think it is well worth reading and an excellent introduction to his work.
