They're well made, printed in gorgeous full color on excellent quality paper, and are most decorative. I was a bit disappointed to see that several older pictures (from the Clinton administration for the re-used picture of Socks the cat in front of the White House!) are being used. They're still beautiful though. Mine did get a bit crunched on one corner, as it was mailed in an un-padded plastic bag mailer. If you love cats, you won't be sorry you've bought this. I've even used some pictures from some of the back issues that I have to decoupage light switch covers for my home. They look so good that visitors have asked me where I bought them!

The pictures are beautiful, though as another reviewer pointed out there are a lot of repeats of the same pictures over the years. Wish they would use new ones. The quality of the paper has gone down the last few years. It used to be much thicker and better quality.

Some really good ideas By Denniger Bolton While it may be a little late to train our dog, Chewie to quit chewing things,,,I know we never should have named her Chewy...according to Nancy Key, the author, it just takes a little longer. There is some really good info in this book for training your loyal, playful, pet. One idea I got for when she wants to go for a walk and of course gets over excited, is to ignore it until she cools down. Command her to sit and when she does, clip on the leash and then go. The author has many great ideas about dogs who jump on people.

We originally did some train on our five year old schnauzer when she was older, but stopped reinforcing when we had kids. All that was left a few years, were the bad habits. However, we didn't really train them to do anything or any tricks because me and my family simply don't know how. I enjoyed this book because of the techniques it has in order to train dogs. They apply to any types of dog so it's very helpful. I think I understand dog behavior now a little better. And I can't wait to teach our dogs a few tricks. Good read.

I have been working with him using the suggestions in the book and it seems to be subsiding somewhat. I'll definitely continue to work with him and hopefully he will quit completely. Good book to get you going in the right direction for different things that could be affecting your dogs behaviors.

By Julee M From Aladdin to Monsters Inc. there are plenty of party themes to have the perfect Disney themed party with The Ultimate Disney Party book.One of the things I absolutely love about this book is there are so many photographs...all full color. They capture the magic and give a clear visual on the final product.Each idea also includes easy-to-follow instructions.There are eight themes in all: Aladdin Party, Disney Princess Party, Toy Story Party, Mickey and Minnie Party, Monsters, Inc. Party, Wreck-It Ralph Party, Planes Party, Captain Hook Party. The book includes templates to easily recreate the invitation, garland, craft.I love the ideas, though all aren't necessarily original--like the Planes Candy airplanes. It's still a fun book with plenty of inspiration.I received this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Nice Party Ideas and Planning For The Young And Young At Heart By G.I Gurdjieff For anyone with a love of Disney, this is a cute party book with illustrations and easy instructions to turn a party into a Disney extravaganza.As a kid I had a Disney cookbook/party book as did my kids. This reminds me of it except it is more ambitious in terms of greater scope and imagination. From Mickey and Minnie to Belle, this book has delightful themes such as Belle's Baguettes (cute sammies) and decorations that are Disneyland worthy. All ideas can work for a variety of party themes from birthdays to baby showers.I ordered this mainly because my only grandchild lives nearby and is huge into Disney. I figured we'd try out the recipes and have some fun. A quick once over made it apparent that we/she would throw a tea party on the patio for her friends. Right now we are planning it down to the sandwiches, tea cakes, and 'tea' which will be a punch not in this book. With this book you can go off the grid and still grab some very clever ideas that follow the basic ideas and suggestions included.

I have to tell you, I am working on a party for later this Summer season for my grandchildren. We have had a rough year and so we are going to celebrate some of the better times that are coming. We are going to be making Fairy Godmother Wands, and Planes Candy Favors.The directions are laid out very clear. All you have to do is follow them in order to create what is pictured! The photos are bright, the instructions are clear, and they items to get can be easily gotten at a store near you.

About the Author A graduate of Texas A & M University and a teacher for many years, Donna Hechler Porter now homeschools her teenage boys. She is a member of Romance Writers of America, RWA's Hearts Through History Chapter as well as Northwest Houston's Lonestar Chapter. She has published four genealogy books on her family history and is currently working on a fifth. Other of her works include:Blackwork Made Easy: Techniques, Patterns and SamplersQUAKER MOTIF COLLECTIONBeginner's Guide to BlackworkTraditional Sampler Verses & Symbolism of Sampler MotifsSecond, the cover of this item is the Jane Bostocke sampler which is shown in full on the next page. This is housed in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and is one of the most important pieces of needlework in existence: it's the first stitch-signed and -dated sampler and being from 1598, it's the only positively known one from the 16th century.I don't have a kindle and it annoys me that I can't enjoy this magazine. I do have about 800 needlework books though and I prefer books because the illustrations are so important. A kindle can't match that for detail. However...the thought of lightening my burgeoning bookshelves is sort of attractive....

Geoffrey is a well-known face on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow and an acknowledged specialist in antique jewellery, a subject on which he has written several books. He lives in London and Suffolk and is the author of a pictorial history of his hometown: Southwold - An Earthly Paradise. The illustration of never before seen treasures with already known favorites are well balanced. The chapters were a delight but I wish the one about the clientele was longer. The book is a treasure both visually and historically.

An anonymous benefactor on the Board, "Mr. Smith," decides to send her to college, as long as she writes to him faithfully detailing her education. Originally published in 1912, Jean Webster's coming-of-age tale continues to be relevant to young women today. Actress Kate Forges shares these months and years, from freshman to senior in college. Through a series of letters Jerusha writes to "Daddy-Long-Legs," a relationship filled with affection and respect develops, even though she is the only correspondent throughout the years. Although the narrative unfolds slowly, the language is sophisticated, highly descriptive, and witty. Jerusha's concern about social class standings may seem a bit dated to most listeners, as the reference to "Negro waiters" when she is riding the train may surprise and offend some listeners. Forbes gives an outstanding one-woman performance. Her crisp elucidation, varied intonations, and enthusiasm for this character provide a first-rate reading. A sweet story with a twist By Amazon Customer Usually I absolutely hate novels that are supposed to be a collection of letters and/or diary entries for this simple reason, they are as transparent as saran wrap. Something along the lines of "I'm just jotting down a casual letter to inform you that I just had a terrible fight with so-and-so, here's what we said word for word complete with speaker attributes"That's why I was so pleasantly suprised with this book. The writing is entertaining, intelligent and always realistic. That is EXACTLY how a person in their late teens, early twenties writes (I know, I'm a letter writer in that age group) and it is so refreshing to read an author who knows what she is talking about on the subject.Judy Abbott is most certainly not a Pollyanna, she teases, gets angry and argues but she has a nice nature and always manages to patch things up. She is an orphan who writes to her mysterious benefactor whom she dubs "Daddy-Long-Legs". Because he is her fairy godmother for all purposes, she confides in him even though she knows he will never answer. The ending is marvelous with a great little twist. I think this book is great for girls 8-80 and am sorry I did not read it sooner

33 of 33 people found the following review helpful. A Classic You Can Read in a Day By Michelle Bowden I've read this book a few times, and every time I come back to it, I can't put it down. It's short (around 200 pages) & sweet. The book was published in 1912, and is one-of-a-kind, as it consists almost entirely of letters written by Judy. Judy is an orphan from the John Grier Home, an orphange she was raised in since she was a baby. Her future seems very bleak until one day she is unexpectedly offered the opportunity for a paid college education to become an author by one of the orphanage's trustees. In return, she has to write monthly letters to the unknown trustee who is known as Mr. John Smith. She calls him "Daddy-Long-Legs" because she saw his tall shadow as he left the building. Her letters are very entertaining, and often impertinent. That is really all I want to tell of the story, but here are a couple of quotes from the book that I loved:"It isn't the big troubles in life that require character. Anybody can rise to a crisis and face a crushing tragedy with courage, but to meet the petty hazards of the day with a laugh -- I really think that requires spirit.""I think the most necessary quality for any person to have is imagination. It makes people able to put themselves in other people's places. It makes them kind and sympathetic and understanding. It ought to be cultivated in children."

17 of 18 people found the following review helpful. a delightful printing of a wonderful book By Mindful Consumer first, please allow me to say that i am quite enjoying these puffin classics editions of some of my favorite novels!'daddy long legs' is the story of a young orphan girl named judy who was removed from the orphanage by an anonymous patron/guardian who sends her away to school. the trade-off for this extraction is that she must write him a letter at least once per month.the joy in this novel is the progression and self-assurance that builds with each letter she writes to him. i will spoil none of the story, but the ending is heartwarming and will not disappoint.having this updated printing reminds me of when i first read this in grade school/middle school. these joyful memories are priceless.a bonus here with the puffin classics is the addition of backstory included at the end of the book. here you can learn more about the author, the story, the characters, and so much more. what a delightful thing to include!i have purchased most of these puffin classics editions, and will certainly look for future additions to add to my collection.
