I'm almost positive it was written by a non-native English speaker. There are incomplete thoughts, run-on sentences, and poor grammar throughout. I cant imagine an editor even looked at at single draft.Also, the information in this book is general and not comprehensive at all. This had less information than most blogs/websites you can find for free. I read the entire book in about 15-20 minutes and don't have any more clue about building a tiny house than I did before.If you're able to borrow this book for free through amazon, great. You'll see what I mean. Otherwise, don't spend your money or waste your time on this book.PS - I know this sounds harsh, but I just want people to be aware.

I think it's an amazing idea for people to downsize. I don't know if it would work for me currently, but I would definitely consider it for the future. I like how the author explains the basics and doesn't go too far in depth. Very easy to read and highly recommend if you are considering this lifestyle and want to learn more.

However, there are so many grammatical errors and poor use of the English language that I couldn't get any further than page 6. Save your money, I already lost mine.

138 of 140 people found the following review helpful. Outstanding Star Wars crochet kit for amigurumi characters By iiiireader Overall, I am impressed by the quality of this kit. The kit includes enough yarn to finish two Star Wars projects, specifically one each of Yoda and a Stormtrooper, and after that you will need to purchase additional yarn, fiberfill, safety eyes, and other assorted items to finish more of the characters. The kit does not say exactly what size the yarn is but it seems to be at most a worsted weight 4 and it appears to be acrylic and/or wool rather than cotton. It does state that the models shown in the book were made with either weight 4 or 3 but doesn't detail which is which.The colors of yarn included are: white, black, pale green, beige, and brown. Also included is a tapestry needle for seaming the figures and adding features with yarn, an inexpensive crochet hook in size 3.50 (US E/4), four plastic safety eyes and fiberfill. There are also fairly detailed instructions including many diagrams. Unfortunately, there are no directions included for how to place the safety eyes. I am sure that this information can be found on the internet with a simple search. The directions do tell you exactly where to place the eyes. I must admit that I won't be using these eyes but will instead find ones that I can purchase so all of my figures will be consistent. Either that or I will embroider eyes on using basic satin stitches.While the yarn in this kit is very nice, I will be using my own stash to be sure that the sizes, colors, look, and feel of my characters are consistent. The instructions are detailed but I don't think that this is a project for most beginners. It uses techniques that crocheters with a bit more experience would feel comfortable with. If you are a beginner, just be sure you have access to someone or a website that can give you answers if you have any questions about the instructions.The book includes instructions for 12 Star Wars figures: Yoda, Stormtrooper, C-3PO, Princess Leia, Wicket the Ewok, Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and Jabba the Hutt. In addition to the patterns, there are many pictures of scenes of the characters from the actual movies - really fun for any Star Wars fan to have included.The hook is okay but I prefer to use my own for ergonomic reasons. The characters look to be fairly small - if you want to make them larger, use thicker yarn and larger hooks. The instructions should work well no matter the size. The tapestry needle is decent and works well for its purpose.I have purchased and crocheted other kits from this company (the Peanuts and Classic Disney) as well as one distributed by another company but which looks exactly like this brand with a slightly different box (Disney Winnie the Pooh). The instructions in the kits are all very similar as are the materials. I have been very impressed with the previous kits and believe this one will be just as good.On the whole, I really like the kit and the instructions and recommend it to an intermediate or above crocheter without hesitation.

82 of 85 people found the following review helpful. More of an idea kit. Could be improved upon. By Gordo The Game Enthusiast Lucy Collin is a very talented 5-Star amigurumi designer. With the exception of Darth Vader, who unfortunately looks a little like a poodle man, the characters look amazing. The 3-Star review is for the Thunder Bay Press publishing company who produced this kit.The instructions aren't presented with a beginner in mind. Not sure this is entirely the fault of Lucy Collin's the author. If you are a beginner, and ambitious, you can you-tube plenty of tutorials to help you through. As an intermediate to advanced crocheter myself, I find these instructions fair. I'm not familiar with needlepoint and the explanations in this book are very vague when it comes to the finishing touches that require the needlepoint skill set (you-tube helps in this area). Also stuffing is a big part of shaping the dolls and the book does not do a good job of offering tips in that department. I found while making Yoda it was better to stuff him at different intervals than what was suggested. My last gripe regarding the instruction book itself is that it is soft-covered and glue bound in a way that does not stay open to the page you are working on.Materials: As one reviewer pointed out, the washers for the safety eyes are almost useless. I had to figure out a way to stretch them out to get them to work. Very frustrating. The yarn it comes with frays really easily so you have to be extra careful.Personally, I would prefer to pay a bit more and have the kit come with more of the materials needed to make at least most of the projects. Finding the correct size and color of eyes is not always easy and color matching the yarn is a challenge to get an authentic look.Overall: If you love Star Wars and crochet and are looking for inspiration I recommend this kit. Just be aware there may be some researching of online tutorials needed. You'll also need access to a well stocked specialty yarn store. Michael's and JoAnn's Fabrics don't carry the safety eyes and color matching yarn is challenging. There is no listing with this kit of brands that carry the yarns used to make the rest of the dolls so you are on your own. Despite the negatives I'm excited to try and make as many of these as I can!Update: There is an error on page 19 of Yoda's robe section. Row 6 should end with a ch 1 turn. Also on page 18 at the top Round 20 I only did BLO (back loops only) for the regular stitches. I went in both loops for the 3dc pop stitches to make the toes stand out more and I think it helps him balance better.And a note for beginners: when the instructions say 'x' in next st (at the beginning of a row when not working in the round) they mean not the chain but into the last single crochet you made from the previous round. Things like this are not explained in the book.

It does a great job of covering the main points of French bayonet design and the historical events and design considerations that led to the various changes in design to the weapon. The iterative process of experience and design response is well charted.

Also a fascinating look at behind the scenes decision making in the various armies. A good addition to any military buffs library. Well worth the price of a few coffees for an afternoon read and to keep on hand as a reference.

This short book gives a well-written, succinct account of the technological evolution of the bayonet, from the medieval pole-arm to the current version. The discussion is in the context of the French military's quest for the ultimate bayonet, but the historical aspect covers bayonet development across all of the World Powers. Various national military doctrines are discussed, and the rise and fall of the bayonet is well-chronicled. A very easy, informative read on an interesting topic.

About the Author Dr. Mary Margaret Gardiner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Entomology at The Ohio State University. She received a B.S. in Resource Ecology and Management from the University of Michigan, a M.S. in Entomology from the University of Idaho and a Ph.D. in Entomology from Michigan State University. Mary is originally from small community in northern Michigan where she grew up gardening with her family and enjoying the outdoors. Her love of nature developed into a career studying how human activity influences the sustainability and ecological function of agricultural and urban habitats. Much of her current research takes place within Cleveland, OH, a city that encompasses 20,000 vacant lots where homes and businesses once stood. Here, her laboratory is studying how the redesign of vacant land to restore native plant communities, improve storm water infiltration, and provide access to locally-produced food influences the environmental quality of city neighborhoods. Mary is also a State Extension Specialist who is active in the Ohio Master Gardener Program. She regularly presents programs on arthropod identification and how to enhance home landscapes, urban green spaces and small-scale farms as habitats for beneficial arthropods.

By Sheryl Normandeau Every gardener needs to be able to identify and understand the role of the most common insects in the garden – a difficult task, to be sure, but it can make a huge impact on the way integrated pest management is practiced. There are a myriad of excellent insect ID books out there – both general and regional in scope – but to my knowledge, Dr. Gardiner’s is the first to specifically cover beneficial predatory insects. If you are trying to keep your garden as chemical-free as possible, a working knowledge of the insects described in Good Garden Bugs is essential, as they are your allies against any insect pests that might attack your plants. Most of us are familiar with the role ladybird beetles play as voracious aphid feeders – but have you thought about how useful insects such as assassin bugs, lacewings, wasps, antlions, and the parasitoid flies are? What about arachnids such as spiders, predatory mites, and scorpions? How about the water beetles that can help protect your pond plants?Good Garden Bugs is easily accessible to the home gardener: the profiles of each insect offer sufficiently appropriate (not overwhelming) details about identifying features, distribution, and behaviour/habits. The full colour photography is outstanding and is a huge asset to anyone looking to make a positive ID of the six- or eight-legged critter found in the bean plants.I was particularly interested in the short discussion of the feeding habits of the insects, as the way that they eat (piercing, sucking, etc.) is important to consider when examining their effectiveness as predators. Excellent macro photos illustrate the various mouthparts. There are also good tips on designing an “enemy-friendly” landscape, including a useful list of attractive plants (focussing on natives and those with extrafloral nectaries).The readability and the stellar photography in Good Garden Bugs make this a must-have resource in any gardener’s library. Next time you go out in the garden and you see an insect you can’t identify, consult Good Garden Bugs. You might just be getting a helping hand in the garden!

In this book, Gardiner introduces natural enemies as a source of natural pest control in home landscapes. To understand the context of this reference book most people will want to start by reading the first three chapters to better understand natural enemy life cycles and eating habits, how biological control works and tips for monitoring for good bugs. There’s a bonus in Chapter 2 where the author shares her expertise in selecting and growing native plants and other favorites to provide habitat for natural enemies. The meat of the book is showing how to recognize natural enemies and how they contribute to the good of your garden. Gardiner is both a gardener and a scientist. This book is science-based and yet very approachable. Chapters 4-12 are organized by animal classification orders, a way to group similar natural enemies together for discussion. The book has a thorough index ready to help if classification orders are not your way of thinking. There are also lots of good photos. Photos of more life stages would be helpful for bug identification, although the author references bugguide.net where more images are likely available. The book has a striking layout and feels sturdy in your hand -- pages should hold up to some outdoor wear. If you’re a gardener looking to improve pest management and the ecology of your space, this is your book. I was sent a copy of this book and asked to review it. My honest opinion is that those interested in natural pest control will appreciate "Good Garden Bugs."

The trouble is, I'm not always sure which bug is good and which isn't. So I found this book extremely helpful.There's a lot of information in Good Garden Bugs. For those who want to learn all that they can, they'll be pleased with the detailed descriptions of each bug. For those who don't particularly want to become bug experts, there are clear images for identification and information on what each bug consumes. It's very helpful.For me, one of the most interesting parts of the book is about creating a good-bug habitat and learning which kinds of environments draw these hard-working beneficial insects. It includes advice on the types of plants and lawns to grow, water needs, and shelter.This is a great reference book and has given me a new appreciation for the bugs I see in my yard.I received a copy of this book in order to write this review. The book is in two parts, one a guide to the village of West Knoyle, where he lived. It is a well-judged piece with just the right balance of historical and geographical background and personal experience.The second part concerns a journey he made from Dorset to Scotland on his horse Trigger. It is a marvellous tale and brings to life the journey, the people he meets and the country he travels through. He tells the story with charm and insight and it made me laugh out loud on several occasions.It made me want to climb onto a horse and join him. I warmly recommend it.
