Over the years have on occasion had the urge to "flower" up the residence but usually with disastrous results. Over watering, no watering, absence of care, no light, too much light, bugs and just dead flowers. I like this guide as it really simplifies what works. Seeing the flower helps as well so there is reference to color and shape. Overall the guide is clear and easy to read. You do not need to be a Horticulturist to understand the variances and can approach a garden shop with some confidence you know what you want and why. Good one.

Arriving in the ancient Byzantine city in the year 1273, Anna Zarides has only one mission: to prove the innocence of her twin brother, Justinian, who has been exiled to the desert for conspiring to kill Bessarion, a nobleman. Disguising herself as a eunuch named Anastasius, Anna moves freely about in society, using her skills as a physician to maneuver close to the key players involved in her brother's fate.

With her medical practice thriving, Anna crosses paths with Zoe Chrysaphes, a devious noblewoman with her own hidden agenda, and Giuliano Dandolo, a ship's captain conflicted not only by his mixed Venetian-Byzantine heritage but by his growing feelings for Anastasius.

Trying to clear her brother's name, Anna learns more about Justinian's life and reputation, including his peculiar ties to Bessarion's beautiful widow and his possible role in a plot to overthrow the emperor. This leaves Anna with more questions than answers, and time is running out. For an even greater threat lies on the horizon: Another Crusade to capture the Holy Land is brewing, and leaders in Rome and Venice have set their sights on Constantinople for what is sure to be a brutal invasion.

Anna's discoveries draw her inextricably closer to the dangers of the emperor's treacherous court - where it seems that no one is exactly who he or she appears to be.

Richly detailed and finely wrought, The Sheen on the Silk is a bold and brilliant work that affirms Anne Perry's talent as a master storyteller.

I enjoy her Victorian mystery series, especially the Thomas Pitt books, because she has so much talent for taking me into another time period and making me see the lives of her characters. Even though this particular book was set in a completely different time and place I had expected to enjoy it just as much. Sadly for me, that was not the case. This was a book that I struggled to read, in fact I pushed myself to finish it because I kept hoping I would find that Anne Perry spark that I recognized.Anna Zarides has made her way to Constantinople to find her twin brother Justinian. Once there she discovered that Justinian had been involved in a plot to kill the emperor and has been banished to the Sinai desert. Was he guilty of the crime? If so, why banishment instead of death? Is he still alive? Sound like a good mystery? Well, it might have been if this book could have decided that it wanted to be a mystery. Instead it wavered back and forth between mystery and historical fiction epic with the fate of her brother definitely taking a back seat for most of the novel. In order to investigate his whereabouts it was necessary for Anna to disguise herself as the eunuch Anastasius. It seems Anna could use her skills as a physician only if she were a eunuch, not a female. I thought that the author set herself up for some very difficult storytelling by using that device, but maybe it would have worked if I had ever felt really passionate about Anna or Anastasius. Frankly, I didn't care for either of them because they seemed almost bland, as if they were the background and the story was taking place in spite of them being there. Anna had the most incredible luck to settle in a city where she knew absolutely no other person and yet become personal physician to every important personage in that city. Quite an accomplishment. And months and months pass while Anna/Anastasius is establishing her medical practice and becoming embroiled with religious politics with no progress being made on finding out anything about her brother. There are plots within plots and sub-plots within those plots also. And many, many characters. The novel probably will be enjoyed more by readers of historical fiction because the main emphasis of the story is always centered on the political wranglings between the rulers of Constantinople and Rome. Between the Roman Catholic Church represented by the Pope then in power and the emperor of the Byzantine empire. Between the different factions in Constantinople who all have their own agendas and are willing to do any kind of malicious act to arrive at their hoped for result. It was just too much of a departure from previous books I've read by this author for me to enjoy it. Plus I honestly found it dull.

It tells the dramatic tale of Constantinople in the 1200's, which is on the brink of being invaded once again by Crusaders. When done well, historical fiction is perhaps my favorite genre to read, because it gives me the sense that I've got a window into the events of the past. However, historical fiction is also a genre that can be something of a minefield because there is a delicate balance that must be struck. Unfortunately, I don't think that Anne Perry was able to strike that balance. The first thing I notice about a book of this genre is whether the author is able to capture what life was like during the particular time period in which events take place. I felt that Perry did a nice job in this respect. I could imagine what the city must have looked like, what the Hagia Sophia was like, the scents and sounds of the markets, etc. This was one strong point of the novel for me, my sense that Perry enabled me to really step into the shoes of a 13th century Byzantine citizen. The events of the novel are fairly epic, spanning everything from a woman's quest for revenge to crises of faith on both the parts of the Byzantine Orthodox and Roman Catholic characters. It seemed to me that Perry was trying to capture a pivotal period in time, when the once flourishing culture of Byzantium was beginning to die out, the unfortunate victim of a jealous and avaricious Europe. However, I found the broad scope working to the detriment of the novel. Perry leaps over significant chunks of time with transitions that are quite awkward. Because of this, I occasionally found the novel hard to follow. However, the biggest disappointment of the book was, for me, the use of the characters. The novel is told from multiple points of view--too many points of view, in my opinion. I felt that too much time was devoted to characters who were less interesting or about whom the reader could have learned just as much through the observations of other characters. This meant that less time was given to the more interesting characters. There were long passages told from Constantine's point of view that seemed as though they could have been cut without sacrificing anything of the narrative thread. Anna makes many observations about him that would have given the reader just as good a sense of his character. The most underdeveloped character of all was that of Anna. By the end of the book, I felt as if I knew barely anything about her. The book seems to define her mostly within the confines of her determination to bring about justice for her brother, but it never really tells us anything about Anna, herself. The author alludes to Anna's past without giving the reader any real detail about it at all. When Anna's big secret finally is revealed, it is almost anticlimactic, and I felt that the author could have done more with Anna by revealing her secret earlier in the novel and using this to really flesh out the character. Out of all the characters, Anna just didn't ring true for me. The reader is never really given enough information about what makes Anna who she is, and this makes her seem a little too perfect in her reactions to other characters. On the other hand, I felt Perry did an excellent job of fleshing out the character of Giuliano. He is given a lot of internal dialog and I found his to be the best-drawn character arc. He grows a lot during the course of the novel, and I found him to be very sympathetic. Out of all the characters he was, by far, my favorite. This is a very uneven novel that I feel would have benefited from some additional editing. The beginning was particularly repetitive at times, with the metaphor of silk being stated so explicitly over and over, it was nearly being pounded into the reader's head. There were passages that simply didn't need to be in the novel, because they didn't advance the plot and provided the reader with no real insight into the characters. I simply couldn't understand why passages like these were included at the expense of some further insight into a character as central to the novel as Anna was.

If you enjoy well-written historical mysteries with characters developed as human beings (in addition to their plot roles), you will enjoy this. The historical setting seemed realistic, although I don't know enough about Byzantium to be sure -- let's just say that I didn't see any obvious anachronisms. The city itself is almost as well-developed a character as any of the people in the story. The bibliography suggests that it's at least well-grounded fiction. The plot is satisfyingly twisty and turny, with alliances shifting in ways that create an almost kaleidoscope effect. The shifting alliances (and seeming alliances) are handled quite deftly. The author sometimes slips in amongst all the action a haunting scene that evokes this very different time and place. The mystery is sufficiently, uh, mysterious not to be obviously solvable in the first 100 pages. There's a faint religious overtone to the novel that I found both interesting and bit off-putting. The book is by no means a religious tract, or even a philosophical one, but there is something there that tugged at the back of my mind and distracted me a bit. On the whole, I call this a very good novel and a decent mystery.

By Frank Talaber Katherine's research and attention to detail had me, in the space of a few paragraphs, pulled into a world of England in the 1600's. I don't normally read historical novels, but once past the antiquated words and thoughts I was hooked. So much so I had to look for my musket. Jasper's father has died, somewhat suspiciously and as Jasper begins to realize after mysterious documents surface, did he know his dad at all? England is on the edge of war with the Dutchy, as they are called. Jasper to trying to teach religious theories in a time when the world around him cares little for it and more for going to war. Lies, deceit and walking a thin edge of becoming a shop owner all challenge Jasper into wondering is he being tormented into entering hell and not falling for madly in love with a beautiful Dutch woman. Who potentially could become the countries enemy. What is he to do? I won't tell, but suffice to say if you like historical novels, you'll love this one.

Cook Katherine Pym launches the reader into 1660's London, not only through her skill in recreating the sights and sounds of the city, but in the speech and thoughts of her characters - and I say this as someone who both grew up on the edge of London and studied the period in graduate school. Jasper's world, where politics, religion, society, and love are inextricably intertwined, may just have something to teach us about the times we live in, too. Especially recommended if you love the history in your historical novels, or enjoy books that don't always follow the same standard formula.

These are the things I enjoyed most in Katherine Pym’s Jasper’s Lament - intrigue By Amazon Customer These are the things I enjoyed most in Katherine Pym’s Jasper’s Lament - intrigue, both personal and political; Jasper himself, who is complex, down-to-earth, and by no means a prig, despite being of the Puritan persuasion; conflict between him and the seductress, Hester; the author’s impressive knowledge of the 1660’s; and historical detail that brings the era alive without intruding on the story.A quibble for me had to do with the introduction of a ghost into the action, but that is one individual’s opinion, and may actually be a plus to other readers. The story is built on secrets; personal ones, and secret plots. Jasper is in for quite a shock when he discovers that his rigidly Puritanical father was not all he appeared to be. Then Jasper falls for Placidia, a Dutch girl, and finds she may be involved in a plot against the Protestant King Charles. What to do? Expose her relatives, or face being accused of spying himself? An intriguing and original look into post-Cromwell Britain, a complex age made fascinating by the unresolved political, racial and religious conflicts in play at the time.

The Battle on the Homefront during WWII By Kindle Customer B Hurley I started reading You Are Cordially Invited to War two days ago, and found it hard to put down. It is poignant, yet found me laughing out loud. A historical novel, not only of a wartime, but also of a culture- it accurately describes a southern lifestyle which was gentle and gracious, while viciously guarding long-standing but unwritten rules of racial interaction. It is the story of a family and their efforts to help a precious "colored" girl they had come to love.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. If you liked The Help By granm If you liked The Help, you are going to LOVE this song of the South story of whites and blacks during a time of upheaval, turmoil, and sensitivity. There is humor, candor, and great diction so depictive of what times would have been in the 1940s. I cannot believe the author's ability to write in such a mature manner...full of beautiful words and a fluidity of style! GREAT first book! Congratulations!

War On the Home Front By Season Sinclair You Are Cordially Invited to War—World War II was raging overseas, claiming the lives of those close and beloved, but this invitation to war is a broader one. Tommye Hamilton Wright tells a story that encompasses all the aspects of what home-life was like in America in the early 1940’s.Wright’s character, Kay Ann Franklin, is a beloved daughter, wife, mother, and neighbor who is known for her poise and polish. While battling racial tensions and neighborhood disputes, she must also keep home warm and welcoming. One of her young sons is suffering from polio, placing the house under quarantine, and the mother she loves so dearly lies in the upstairs bedroom with cancer that threatens to take her from them. Kay Ann’s husband works at the plant not far from home and faces his own set of crises and triumphs. The young “colored” girl who shows up on Kay Ann’s doorstep offering her help, changes their bleak world into one of determination, perseverance, and infectious joy. However, because they treat her with such generosity, racial controversies land squarely on the Franklin’s doorstep. A new puppy and a victory garden add freshness to their mundane routine.Wright has done a beautiful job of taking the reader back in time to this exciting, yet heart-wrenching time in the lives of Americans. You will find yourself laughing and crying with these characters as they experience the effects of World War II right at home. A book well worth the read, You Are Cordially Invited to War.

This is something I've been wanting to do for a long time, declutter my home (and my life) and start over with only the essentials. But minimalist living is not an overnight change, it's a lifestyle practice. If you're like me and are ready to change, this book will help you get on the right path.

It's full of fun, whimsical, quirky designs to color on the go or anywhere. I had my copy spiral bound at Office Depot to make it really easy to color in. I'm a big fan of this artist's work, I recommend checking out all of her books.

Krais I love the size of this book and that it the images are single-sided so markers and pens don't ruin the postceding images. However, neither the quality of the art nor paper are what I expected for the price and I'm disappointed.

Surgeon Getorius Asterius, his wife Arcadia, the eunuch archpriest of a pagan fertility cult, the female head of a heretical Arian church, and an ambitious senator in league with a Chinese merchant: these are the prime movers in this mystery set in Ravenna, Italy, in A.D. 440. When Getorius is summoned to examine the castrated body of a youth found by Thecla in her Arian church, who is the sobbing “Vestal Virgin” nearby? Is there any connection between this crime and the fact that a senator is smuggling counterfeit Western coins to the Eastern Empire, and contraband Chinese products back to Ravenna? A coded message leads to a secret tunnel and the sinister temple of Cybele, whose devotees are self-mutilated eunuchs. In a stunning climax, the conspirators try to escape Ravenna, planning to sell their products in Egypt, but failing to recognize the deadly nature of what they are carrying…

Thecla was just turning back from opening the second door, to admit as much light as possible, when she heard what sounded like sobs echoing in the dim nave, coming from the chancel area around the altar. She hesitated a moment, then walked along the column arcade until she made out the figure of a woman swathed in a white robe, sitting on the stone floor near the pulpit. A veil partially concealed her head and face. The woman's bulky garment rose and fell with each sob. "Domina? Domina, are you ill?" Thecla whispered, puzzled that someone would be in her church at this hour. Louder sobbing was the only answer. The robes look vaguely familiar, Thecla thought, but I don't believe she's a congregation member. "Can I help you, Domina," she repeated more loudly. When Thecla moved closer, she noticed a puddle of blood on the floor that seeped onto the lower part of the woman's tunic. Then, in the half-light, she made out the nude body of a young man lying to one side of the woman. A golden sickle gleamed softly in his limp hand. The dark pool of blood seemed to come from between his legs. Thecla bent next to the youth and saw in horror that his scrotum had been severed. "Christotokos," she gasped, "Mother of Christ, what happened here? Did...did he?" Nausea choked off her question. Thecla leaned sideways in a retch that brought bitter bits of crayfish to her throat. She felt the jar she was carrying slip from hands that were drained of strength, helpless to hold onto the smooth clay. The container smashed on the floor, sending a splash of golden oil to mingle with the crimson puddle at her feet. After a moment she recovered enough to wipe a sleeve across her mouth. "Virgin Mother...the man...has...has mutilated himself," she murmured to herself. "He needs medical help. What was the name of that physician Fabius mentioned? It sounded Celtic or Gothic...said he lived on the Via Julius Caesar." Thecla decided the sobbing woman could wait until a physician came. With another glance at the youth's body, the presbytera staggered to her feet. Dazed, in shock, she supported herself on each nave column in turn, lurching back to the entrance. A diminishing trail of oily blood from the hem of her tunic had feathered out by the time she reached the front doors. Thecla went out into the shadow of the portico to gulp in cool evening air until she felt less faint. Gradually, her mind cleared. When she looked around for someone who might help, she saw a small figure walking along her side of the Via Armini. "Boy!" she called out in a hoarse voice. "Child, wait!" The boy stopped and looked her way. She fumbled for a bronze quadrans in her purse, then half-ran to him, hiking up her tunic to keep from tripping on the folds, thinking that any loss to her dignity was of less importance than finding help for the man in her church -- if he was still alive. Thecla was out of breath when she reached the boy. "Child," she panted, "th..there's a bronze in it..if you...bring that physician...who lives...on the Julius Caesar here quickly." The urchin stared at the old woman in her shabby black tunic, eyed the coin in her hand, then turned and ran west along the Via Porti. Mother of Christ, have I frightened the child off? In this twilight I must look like some dark-robed sorceress. "Quickly," she repeated faintly, although the boy was out of hearing. Then Thecla slid to her knees on the damp grass as the horrifying scene in the church filled her mind again. Christotokos, eleison. have mercy, Mother. Who is that young man? Why did he come to my church to...to do that to himself? And the woman. Who is she? Thecla held back an urge to vomit with a prayer of desperation. "Mother of Christ, now I truly need your help. Let that boy bring back the surgeon who treats Fabius's mother. Quickly!

This suspense-driven, historical novel revolves around a 5th Century surgeon and his wife who are living in Ravenna, Italy, shortly before the demise of the Roman Empire. The emperor's mother, a greedy Roman senator, an Arian woman priestess, a Vestal Virgin, and an Asian merchant are some of the vivid characters, who scheme and plot their way to a stunning and suprising climax. Most interesting was the way the writer took me on an incredible journey back in time. I learned about the food and drink people consumed, the culture and customs, and how physicians treated and cured their patients ailments. Christianity in its early stages and the various religious cults of people trying to hang on to their own beliefs makes it interesting.Throughout the novel, the tightly woven plots of murder and intrigue make this a spellbinding tale and an enjoyable read.

The setting is late antiquity Ravenna, at the time (5th century) the capital of the western Roman Empire. The detectives are a pair of doctors, Getorius and Arcadia. They aren't very good doctors by today's standards--not so much because their medical knowledge is limited but because they're perfectly ready (largely for plot convenience) to abandon practice and patients for a poorly justified getaway aboard a cargo ship that lasts several days. They aren't very good detectives, either, by the standards of detective fiction, since they pretty much stumble across all their clues and do little actual deduction. They are, in fact, mostly an excuse to trot out a wealth of research. The author knows his stuff and he resists no excuse to display it for the reader's edification. The result is a bit dry (no wit, no humor) and plodding. Lots of facts but no real sense of place and period. And there's some wink wink nudge nudge from modern author to modern reader(for me a serious flaw in historical fiction) with the introduction of some technology that WE know will have long-lasting implications, though it's too soon in the historical timeline for it to take a foothold.Even so, the best thing about the book is the facts, especially the state of western medical knowledge of the time. There are glancing references to but little involvement with imperial politics. The weakest thing about the book is the paint by the numbers plot. I don't regret reading it, but I'm not inspired to read others in the series.

Beware (Early) Christian Cults By Limelite Husband and wife team Getorius Asterius, a surgeon, and Arcadia, a natural sleuth, live in Ravenna, the western capital of what's left of the Roman Empire under the Emperor Flavius. When Thecla, the Presbytera of an early Christian sect -- the Cybelenes -- discovers the castrated body of a young man accompanied by a weeping girl, Claudia, who suffers from epilepsy, she knows to call in the town's best medical team.In the mode of Brother Cadfael, the author has created a Roman couple involved in pre-scientific forensics and detection. As the complex mystery unfolds, it soon becomes apparent that a conspiracy to devalue the currency of the Eastern Empire by dumping counterfeit coins is being hatched by the leader and members of the cult of Cybele, which demands certain male followers to "auto-eunuch" themselves. To complicate matters, Getorius and Arcadia find themselves suspected of the murder by the Ravenna's investigator, Leudovald. At times working at cross-purposes, at other times in co-operation, Getorius, Arcadia, and Leudovald unravel the mystery, but not before encountering the intriguing Shang Chen who brings with him the technology and silk manufacturing secrets of China. This is a richly detailed historical novel set in a time and place overlooked in fiction. You may find, like I did, that the supporting cast gladiator couple are two of the best minor characters. Take this book with you on summer vacation; it's the perfect escape for the imagination with enough humor to keep the grisly nature of the plot at bay.

[[VIDEOID:a61b4b7382e94a85b3a11da33ebf4c55]]INCREASE DECREASE is the comprehensive knitting reference on this subject that I've been waiting for! Judith Durant gets everything right: spiral binding (so that the instructions stay open and lay flat); large, clear step-by-step photos; step-by-step written instructions printed in easy-to-read type; photographs of swatches that show exactly what to expect from a particular increase or decrease; and compact size (small enough to carry in a knitting bag). The short "Special Circumstances" section, on shaping cable, lace, and color patterns to best effect, is by itself worth the price of the book. The only increase/decrease that I could think of that is NOT shown, is the "nupp" used in Estonian lace knitting (lily of the valley pattern), which requires two rows. (Every time I pick up my lily-of-the-valley shawl project, I wonder whether any motif is pretty enough to be worth all the grief of picking up multiple yarnover loops in a single decrease.)The photographs illustrate the techniques with the yarn held to the left in "continental" (pick) knitting style. This should not detract from the book's value for knitters who hold the yarn to the right in "English" (throw) knitting style. In either style, the yarn must be positioned on the needles in exactly the same way to get specific desired effects.Another book that deals with increases and decreases as they are used in shaping garments (and includes how-to instructions with small photos) is The Shape of Knitting: A Master Class in Increases, Decreases, and Other Forms of Shaping. However, THE SHAPE OF KNITTING is project-oriented. INCREASE DECREASE is the book that belongs on the knitter's reference shelf or in his/her knitting bag.Another terrific, comprehensive spiral-bound reference book, very similar in look and feel to INCREASE DECREASE, is Cast On, Bind Off: 54 Step-by-Step Methods, which deals with techniques for casting on and binding off.

By Cissa This is the third knitting resource book I've gotten in similar sizes and formats, and I have to say I am very happy with them all. I love the basic one (which not only has a good index, but some basic tools like a ruler for checking gauges, and holes to check the size of one's needles), and the second one I got- which covers alternative ways to cast on and bind off- is exceedingly helpful.I expect this one will be similarly useful. Though I am not thus far a creative knitter, sometimes I have not been happy with the way a pattern's prescribed increases or decreases look, and this gives me so many alternatives!A previous reviewer did not like that all the pictures show someone knitting continental rather than English style. While this is true, for me it doesn't make a lot of difference; the photos focus on what the yarn and needles are doing, and are detailed and explicit enough to figure it out, whichever way one knits. (I mostly knit English style, but am trying to learn continental.)I am delighted with it!

Useful for the Novice Knitter, Useless for the Experience Knitter By Kalia This book is from the same publisher and in the same format as a book about how to cast on and bind off. I very much like that book. I learned a lot of new information from it. I bought this book due to that. Unfortunately the vast majority of the information is just so basic that anyone who's ever knit anything with shaping would find over 2/3s of it to be useless. For example, k2tog and k3tog are covered in separate sections. Can you knit lace? You probably don't need this. Have you knit a sweater with darts? You probably don't need this. Are you just starting to knit your first scarf? Congrats, you may need this! I may gift this to someone else when I find someone who wants to learn to knit.

By She is The paper is a knockout selection of double-sided, intensely colored and detailed traditional-style designs with contrasting backings. The inks range from flat to gloss to metallic and all papers have a very smooth waxy/semi-gloss finish. Fortunately they do not have the particularly noxious smell that some papers do, but the booklet does emit some odors that may be offensive to the chemically sensitive for close-up work and needs to be aired out. I was shocked by the quality of the paper in a kit targeted for for beginning-to-intermediate folders. That alone has me entirely happy with the purchase. The booklet is a booklet, not a book, and in its brevity condenses steps that would be better shown in a longer series of simpler diagrams into fewer diagrams with numbers for which folds to do in sequence. This would be hard for a beginner to grasp and would be quite discouraging if this were their only source for learning. They would be better off learning the techniques of basic origami from some simple projects easily found for free online or from the library, or even from a small packet of orgami paper that inclues instructions for a few standard models in the packaging, as many do. There are some projects in the booklet that are simple enough for a beginner, but the projects are not presented in order of complexity. The models are nicely diverse, by a variety of good designers, and are likely to offer at least a few that are different even for experienced origamists, who would surely appreciate the papers.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Amazing Origami By Marty This is a little book with 53 pages of actual origami instructions (17 designs). It arrives nicely and safely packed with 144 sheets of really delightful paper. I generally try out instructions with practice paper before using the ‘good stuff’, and did so with some of these designs, then used the ‘good stuff’, which is actually quite nice to use.I am probably stuck at being a low to mid-intermediate folder in some ways; and I was a bit disappointed with the instructions, some of which I would have had a bit of trouble with if I had not already had Michael LaFosse’s butterfly and geometric origami books (which are well done). Not to say that is Mr. LaFosse’s fault, as Tuttle Publishing did the book and there are other origamists’ designs in there as well. A more advanced origamist would probably not bother with this book at all. Some of the designs you can get just about anywhere – lotus, balloon, masu, crane, frog. So, I was torn between giving this 3 or 4 stars, decided on 3 because of the somewhat inadequate instructions knowing this is aimed at low-intermediate folders (see above). So I can’t really recommend it wholeheartedly. But, the paper is really nice and I am enjoying doing the projects. The cost is low enough so I figure the paper plus the new (not the traditional) instructions are worth it.

Square (8 1/2") Mandalas, Flower patterns, and Geometric patterns, Three sections, printed one per page, By Jackie Cooper This is a wonderful book to carry with you for work, or travel, add to your coloring library, or to try 3 different art styles for coloring, Mandalas, Flower patterns, and Geometric patterns with the purchase of only one book. It is packed full of 45 illustrations and is a small, and Square 8 ½ inches x 8 ½ inches. The illustrations are all small to medium detailed, and the variety is amazing. The 15 Mandalas are all balanced, flowing, in circular form and each one is different. The Flower patterns which do include two pages of leaves only, are imaginative and a bit whimsical. The Geometric patterns are diverse, with no two alike and no filler pages, all are medium detailed . You will want to color every illustration in this book. This would make a nice addition to your coloring library or as a gift to adults, college students or school aged children.I purchased this for my daughter who has a very high profile, stressful job that involves a lot of travel. She loves it and was very surprised at just how much coloring, for only a few minutes can calm you and reduce stress. When you are thinking too much, about work, the past, the future and just cannot get to the here and now, like after work when you get home and your head is still at work, just sit and color for a few minutes and you will be surprised.1. 45 Illustrations printed one per page (the back of each page is blank) on light weight, bright white paper.2. This book is square 8 ½ inches x 8 ½ inches3. The book is divided into three equal sections : 15 (6 ½ inch to 7 inch) Mandalas , 15 (7 ½ inch x 8 inch) Flower Patterns and the third section has 15 (7 ½ inch x 8 inch) Geometric Patterns4. All Markers and some Gel pens leak through these pages, if you use these place two pieces of paper under the page you are coloring to prevent damage to the next page.5. Most of the Flower patterns, and Geometric patterns are medium detailed, the mandalas are about split in half between small and medium detailed.6. Colored Pencils, Gel Pens, Fine or ultra fine Markers and Sharp Crayons will all work well in most of this book.

The one draw back is, if you are using markers, it will bleed through to the next design. I solved this problem by putting an extra sheet of paper behind the one I'm coloring.
