Pretty Mandalay- might be hard for kids By Amazon Customer First, I did experience an initial problem with the previous publication of this title but the "Key Code" system in this version worked much better. I got to my downloads just fine.This package looks like a lot of fun to color! Some of the pix are very detailed while others are less so. The instructions for large prints are clear and I don't foresee any troubles should I want to print them in the future. Very pretty designs!The bonus coloring lessons go from pretty basic to skilled work doing faces and hair for work on my own artwork. The lessons also encourage practice with a number of paper-applied media, including colored pencils, crayons, various inks, chalk pastels and oil pastels. They even tell me how to use a specific non-oily solvent to spread pigments without wrinkling even regular office paper! I love it!These books are pretty much the same except for the downloads. Even though repeated there's good information and inspiration.Wonderful product!I highly recommend!!!

About the Author

Anna Garcia Hyland is a long time dog owner, local writer and new grandmother. She watched her grandson interact with dogs and tried to find books that taught children how to care for a new dog. Unable to find any books that were simple or entertaining enough for younger children to understand, Anna decided to write Colin and Buddy Become Friends to easily teach kids how to interact with a new dog.

This retiree currently is living in Wayzata, MN with her husband and their dog Whiskey. Anna and her dog have been active with Canine Good Citizen, Agility Training, and Canine Speed Ball. Mrs. Hyland has four sons, two daughters-in-law, and two grandchildren.

Colin and Buddy Become Friends is the first in a series of books. The series will continue the focus on providing lessons with each story for the young reader on proper dog care and training.

An Excellent Historical Fiction Thriller By knittingmom The Harvest Man by Alex Grecian is the fourth in his Scotland Yard’s Murder Squad series and the fourth I have read, each one improves upon the last, and yet I do feel the books can be read independent from each other, however I recommend reading them in order for the maximum effect. The Harvest Man takes place in 1890s London and picks up where The Devil’s Workshop left off, for the most part, Ripper is back, but a second murder is on the loose who is worse than Jack the Ripper, known as the Harvest Man. Inspector Day and his ex-partner Sergeant Hammersmith are currently living very different lives. Inspector Day has new twin babies, in-laws that will not leave, and has been assigned desk duty while his leg injury heals. As for Day’s ex-partner, Hammersmith, he was let go from the Yard, but has not given up his pursuit of Ripper and free from the Yard’s restrictions he strays further outside of the law to find Ripper. As for Inspector Day, he is finally allowed into the field when couples are found dead with their faces carved off by a murderer, dubbed the Harvest Man, he becomes the Yard’s central focus, meanwhile Ripper is playing a cat and mouse game with both Day and Hammersmith and the stakes have never been higher. Of the four books in the series, The Harvest Man is by far my favorite, it is the most suspenseful and the most enjoyable, even with rather grotesque murder scenes, the reader is given a deeper insight into the lives of Day and Hammersmith. Grecian’s writing is in top form, the deeply atmospheric book is rich in historical detail as well as filled with intense plotlines, deplorable murders, intriguing characters, family situations interspersed throughout the book, and the thrill level will keep the reader turning the pages. I would recommend The Harvest Man to anyone who enjoys historical thrillers and especially fans of Grecian’s previous books.

Bigelow “The Harvest Man” is the fourth in Alex Grecian’s Scotland Yard’s Murder Squad series.In this outing, the Murder Squad is still reeling from their encounters with Jack the Ripper. Detective Inspector Walter Day is recovering from a leg wound while his partner, Nevil Hammersmith has left Scotland Yard “for his own good” because he can’t let go of his obsession with the Ripper. But they both aren’t prepared for who is skulking around London to join the Ripper in terrorizing 1890s London. The new killer, nicknamed The Harvest Man, uses ether to subdue married couples. He then removes their faces because he knows that beneath their faces he will find his parents.I agree with the other readers that Grecian does not do a good job of introducing readers new to his series to his two main characters. Trying to figure out the relationship between the players is next to impossible.For those of you who do not care for very graphic violence should not pick this book up. Grecian’s penchant for graphic violence is not unique to “The Harvest Man.” His previous outing “The Devil’s Workshop” also described the killer’s violence against his victims in detail.I will have to think long and hard about picking up Grecian’s next book. I prefer my mysteries to be more cerebral, like Louise Penny’s awesome Armand Gamache series and Charles Todd’s excellent Ian Rutledge series.

Bukowsky Alex Grecian's fourth Scotland Yard Murder Squad thriller is as suspenseful and absorbing as its predecessors. You would do well to read the books in order, as each picks up where the previous one leaves off. In "The Harvest Man," Detective Inspector Walter Day once again faces the malevolent Jack the Ripper, who is too clever to be caught by the plodding detectives on his trail. In addition, Day and his colleagues (assisted unofficially by former sergeant Nevil Hammersmith) are trying to apprehend the Harvest Man, a diminutive and deranged man whose psychosis harks back to a tormented childhood.This powerful work of historical fiction takes place in London in 1890. Day and Hammersmith are still nursing the terrible wounds inflicted on them in "The Devil's Workshop." Still, neither is willing to give up doing what he loves best--bringing killers to justice. Grecian gives his heroes formidable challenges in this outing, and adds an extra dimension by showing how their personal lives have changed. Day is the father of twins, his in-laws have moved in and are trying to control his life, and he is becoming increasingly dependent on alcohol to get through the day. Meanwhile, Nevil has been dismissed from the force and appears more slovenly than ever. Other familiar figures are the forensic specialist, Dr. Kingsley; his talented daughter, Fiona; and Claire, Walter's lovely wife and the mother of their adorable baby daughters.The author never misses a beat, as he expertly juggles a host of plots and subplots as well as a large cast of characters--villains, innocent victims, witnesses, law enforcement officials, and an underworld figure who provides information about the brutal slaying of three ladies of the night. There is so much going on here that this novel could have easily descended into chaos. Fortunately, Grecian's measured, lucid, and evocative prose; crisp dialogue; and impressive ability to keep his well-constructed story on track mesmerize us and draw us along quickly. We empathize with two youngsters left orphaned by a murderous fiend, and feel sympathy for the lovelorn Fiona, whose admiration for Nevil is unrequited. Furthermore, we wonder whether Claire and Walter can stand up to her overbearing parents, and fret about poor Nevil, who is quickly going through his meager savings.There is a great deal of gore, counterbalanced by delightfully humorous passages. Grecian uses irony to good effect by inserting the poems of Robert Louis Stevenson's "A Child's Garden of Verses" throughout the narrative, which serve as a commentary and counterpoint to the violent proceedings. "The Harvest Man" is a tour-de-force, and may be Grecian's best installment yet in a series that has become a must-read for fans of police procedurals set in Victorian England.

The Queen’s Necklace is a novel by Alexandre Dumas that was published in 1849 and 1850 (immediately following the French Revolution of 1848). It is loosely based on the Affair of the Diamond Necklace, an episode involving fraud and royal scandal that made headlines at the court of Louis XVI in the 1780s. This novel presents an idealized portrait of Queen Marie Antoinette, but it also shows the decadence of the nobility of the time, with its ending seeming to suggest the ”beginning of the end” of the nobility. The first chapters of the novel, which feature a dinner hosted by the old Marshal of Richelieu, were inspired by a text by Jean-François de La Harpe called The Prophecy of Cazotte. In this passage, the Count of Cagliostro predicts the various guests (Lapérouse, the Countess of Barry, Condorcet and Gustav III of Sweden, the count of Haga), the tragic end that awaits them, and the execution of Louis XVI. This foreshadowing throws light on the tragic plot, as the reader already knows that the efforts of the protagonists, including the queen, to prove their innocence is doomed to failure.

A mediocre translation or was Dumas having a bad-book day? *Review for Wildside Press Edition* By Misfit Inquiring minds want to know, although I'm going to lean towards the former. The Queen's Necklace begins ten years after the close of Memoirs of a Physician, as France recovers from the grips of a deadly winter and Marie Antoinette takes pity on Jeanne de Valois who claims to be descended from the Valois side of the monarchy, albeit from the wrong side of the blanket. Jeanne soon takes up with Cardinal de Rohan who in an effort to ingratiate himself at court offers the stunning necklace originally intended as a gift for the infamous Madame du Barry to the Queen. Thus begins Dumas' take on the well known "Affair of the Diamond Necklace" which scandalized France and further degraded public opinion of the monarchy.Dumas brings characters from the first two books into this story, as the mysterious Balsamo reappears under the new name of Count Cagliostro, Andrée resides at court in service to Marie and falls in love with the Count de Charny (who loves the Queen) and Philip (called Philippe in this book) returns from America and also finds himself madly in love with the Queen. Andrée's former servant Nicole (who bears a striking resemblance to the Queen) now goes by the name of Oliva and is drawn into Jeane's schemes as she masquerades as the Queen setting off further scandals, and eventually Marie and de Charny are caught in a compromising position which leads to a drastic ploy by Marie to save both herself and de Charny. Will this ploy fulfill the secret desire of our heroine Andrée, or does a twist of fate forever change her happiness to great sorrow? I'll never tell, but that was one heck of a plot twist!Unfortunately, what should have been a ripping good read was ruined by a dreadful translation. I've read many works of Dumas and his storylines always move quickly with plentiful action and sparkling dialogue and displays the foibles and machinations of the French Monarchy to perfection. This book was stilted, slow paced with some of the most un-Dumas like dialogue I've ever come across. Worse yet, since most chapters were 3-4 pages long (this from an author who was paid by the word!!??) and from comparing the page count of this version (329) to that of another (432) I'm guessing quite a bit of the story was left out, and frankly I would have bailed on the book except for the fact that I intend to read the rest of the series and didn't want to lose the story. The first two in the series of six I've read were much older publications, published in the early 1900's by P.F. Collier and Son. If you are interested in reading the entire series I recommend you check your library and/or shop the online used sellers for one of those copies. Next up in the series, Taking the Bastile.I do want to note that this review is for the Wildside Press edition and my comments about translation problems should not be reflected against other publishers of this book. I'm stating this as I notice that any reviews posted for one version of this book are showing up on others, and I suspect my review will show up on those editions as well.

By Here-N-Now This is an intriguing look into Marie Antoinette's time - fun, light and totally entwined with intrigues, back-stabbing, plotting, politics, honor, laced with royalty. I would recommend skipping the first chapter as it can be confusing, at least it was for me. Let's just say it differed greatly from the rest of the book. I think he was attempting retro-active staging, but it failed - for me anyway. At times it was hard to keep up because the characters entered so quickly.The book is a wonderful romp through royal plots and parallel plans - the challenge is to see who comes out on top and how. The twists are surreal, making you wonder how much of this was based on true stories of the times and how much is fiction.

I know this is a true event from history, but I just didn't think the queen would talk and behave in that fashion. I also got sick of every man in the novel being so in love with the queen, he was half mad. If you really want to read Dumas at his best, pick up The Count of Monte Cristo and skip this one.

BUT, I got this so I could learn more techniques and I'm quite sure I'll cherish this as my skill improves. Try to get it used unless it's for a gift. I do that whenever offered on Amazon. They are usually a good price and very, very usable, just not new.

Most of the patterns are repeated in the new book and the publisher did not tell the buyers about the same patterns. This is silly and I had to buy this one again without knowing it.That is probably why the publisher did not allow potential buyers to review the content before purchase.Only 4~5 figures are new and 45 others are repeated.

But like other reviewers noted there is very little new about this book. It has several characters not in previous books, but that were in magazines already. This book is disappointing after "Whittling Little Folks" which was all new, and my favorite of his books.

Moth to the Flame By SANBEE The best way to read this series is to start with "PEARL IN A CAGE" when baby Jenny "happens" and follow the family saga through "THORN ON THE ROSE" and then "MOTH TO A FLAME" and the last one "WIND IN THE WIRES".....I have really enjoyed the four books in the WOODY CREEK SERIES since receiving my Kindle for Christmas.....eagerly waiting for number five to come out.....JOY DETTMAN you are a wonderful writer. To effectively carry on a family saga over four books is so clever...All the twists and turns to introduce the "What is going to happen next" appeals to me greatly.

It keeps evolving however there are some themes that seem to be popping back up from 1 and 2 which is kind of disappointing.I would suggest you read this although if you have read 1 and 2 I am sure you won't need to see my review to keep reading.

Not only does the reader get involved in the lives of the characters, but the book is full of interesting points of Australian history. Joy Dettman has a lovely style of writing and I have loved all the books that I have read so far, starting with Jacaranda Blue. I loved every minute of it, and just like this book, I found it hard to put down. It doesn't hurt to have a break between books (if you can stand it!), because you are reminded by little snippets from the past that wind their way through the text.Don't hesitate, buy it!

It is a good overview of the necessary changes needed to begin a new way of living. It essentially gives a checklist of needs for being successful and it's then up to you to decide the degree of sustainability you would like to attempt. Overall, I think it's a very good starting point.

I'm not sure I could live off the grid completely, but there are certainly some ways in which I'd love to see my family being more self-sufficient. Composting and collecting rain water are excellent steps to start where you are and lean into this way of life.

LAND OF GODS (Book 1)

Following the death of his father, Narcel longs to escape the ongoing violence and wars of the land of Braze. It doesn’t help that his mother is mayor of Valhia and his older brother the top advocate for war. Another point against Narcel is his devious cousin, who loves the same girl as Narcel.

His world is thrown upside down when first his brother goes missing, and then he’s taken by the warrior Mawtu clan and made to become one of their slaves and fighters.

At first he’s all alone, caught between his will to live and his hatred for these people. But soon allegiances form and the legends of the gods begin to tempt him and his brothers. If he can survive through training and establish himself in these warrior ranks, Narcel may be able to bring this land and its people to the peace he believes it deserves.

When his two worlds collide, the warrior brothers he’s trained with and learned to love, and the village of his youth, Narcel is forced to make a choice that will inevitably bring Braze to levels of war it has never seen.

RETRIBUTION CALLS (Book 2)

Narcel has finally gotten what he wanted, or has he? The journey to find the Land of Gods becomes more perilous than he dared imagine, as he’s forced to grow into the man the Mawtu failed to teach him to be.

Lokum hunts his cousin, stopping at nothing to be reunited with his love, even if it means abandoning all alliances and throwing away everything he has.

THE SPEAR OF WAR EXPTENDS TO THE NORTH

Valdez As the author, Justin Sloan, notes at the end of the book, he took inspiration for his fantasy tale from the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. Although set in a fictional world, you immediately get the sense and feel of that ancient conflict right from the beginning of Falls of Redemption. The story centers mainly on three characters: the boys Narcel and Lokum, who are cousins; and the girl, Kaire, whom they are attracted to. Vivid world-building and exciting battles propel the tale along as the boys learn to become warriors! A great coming-of-age story that will leave the reader in suspense and on the "edge of their seats" to the end.

By DMK I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, and there will be no spoilers in the review.It took me awhile to get started on the book, but once I started, I finished it in three sessions. The pacing of the story and the cast of characters kept me hooked. There were many distinct and compelling that contributed to the story.The story had many twists, and it was not bound to what you would be consider expected outcomes.If you enjoy the fantasy genre then you won't be disappointed. If you are not a fan, you should give this book a read, it just might change your mind.

Sloan's imagery is so captivating and his characters, especially Narcel and Kaire, are thoughtfully nurtured. I can honestly imagine this on the big screen. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Peepshows were introduced in the mid-eighteenth century by Martin Engelbrecht in Augsburg. They called for a long wooden cabinet designed for purpose incorporating a viewing lens and sometimes a mirror. In the 1820s peepshows made entirely of paper appeared on the scene more or less at the same moment in Vienna, London and Paris. The clumsy cabinet was no longer called for. The new peepshow was equipped with paper bellows so it could be expanded or contracted in a trice. Paper peepshows were light; they were comparatively cheap. They fitted neatly into the pocket. Viewing a Paper Peepshow is an intimate, individual experience that, in the age of television and hand-held computers, gives a real sense of personal discovery. The viewer engages by peeping through a tiny hole and thereby discovers inside layers of images, like a pocket-sized stage set.The format lent itself to a wide variety of subjects: to coronations and to state visits and funerals, to pleasure gardens, to trips up rivers and to the ceremonial openings of new railways, to distant views of cities and to tourist landmarks, to military engagements in exotic places, and to the July Revolution and the fall of the Bourbons in France in 1830. The Crystal Palace, erected in Hyde Park 1851 for the Great Exhibition, inspired the production of very large numbers of peepshows, mostly made overseas and imported. Peepshows made possible visits to sites existing in the imagination, to plunge down Alice's rabbit hole, for example, and to wander through the Garden of Eden in Paradise. The main center of peepshow manufacture in the nineteenth century was toy-making Nuremburg. Briefly in the 1950s it was Britain. Nowadays it is the United States. Paper peepshows are no longer intended essentially for children but for bibliophiles and art-appreciating adults.This stunning book charts the history of these charming collectables. The illustrated catalogue section includes the following data where known: country of origin, publisher, date, method of printing (eg chromolithograph), shape and dimensions, and number of scenes. About the Author Deva Kaur Khalsa VMD: Dr. Deva earned her degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. From her earliest years as a veterinarian, Dr. Deva trained in homeopathy, along with many other holistic modalities, and soon began developing her own treatment protocols drawing from her rapidly growing knowledge base. Since beginning her holistically oriented veterinary practice over 25 years ago, Dr. Deva has been incorporating homeopathy, acupuncture, Chinese herbs, nutritional advice, and allergy-elimination techniques. By Damien Brooks This is the most comprehensive self-help book for dog owners and their dogs that I have ever read. The first edition was considered the 'Bible for dog owners' but this second edition just has even more. There is even a section that tells you how to handle simple, common doggy problems with easy to get products that I have used three times for my dogs since I bought the book. Using the book, each problem resolved fast. My dog has chronic ear infections which were explained in the A to Z Fix it section and-literally for the first time in a long time- my dog's ears are totally good. Saved me some bucks in veterinary bills too. I used to show up to have her ears treated every 2 months or so. Dr. Khalsa explains things so well. Now I really know what I'm doing with my dogs. So I'm over the top. There's a lot of incredibly helpful and useful information in it.And at the end there are tons of great recipes. My dogs never looked so good!

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Wonderful Book By DogLover I absolutely loved the first edition of Dr. Khalsa's book so I sprung for it and bought the 2nd edition. First of all, the book is physically bigger (which is nice because with 4 dogs I open it and look for information often) and has a lot more information than the first book. There is every kind of recipe with many diet choices: gluten-free, wheat-free and raw diet. I understood so much more about holistic health after I read the first edition and made wiser choices for my pets health (actually saving money on health care and winding up with much healthier dogs). But now, with the A to Z Fix it section in the 2nd edition I have at my fingertips solid, workable advice along with clear explanations for all kinds of common medical ailments. This is a must have book for every dog owner that is interested in holistic health for their best friends!

She saved my BJ's life who had allergies so bad & her skin was so raw for years all over her body and I thank God she came into our life and figured out what was causing BJ's allergies and healed her in no time. Read her books! Very informative and helpful and she's available for consults. She loves Animals and does anything for them! BJ & I adorable and love her! God bless Dr. Khalsa!
