The nice cover photo makes you think there is real content inside. Notice there are only 40 pages and the pages are small too. There are no pictures and many misspellings and gramatical errors. Hardly any discussion or "how-to." I suspect the book is printed on demand since there was a date printed inside on the last page which was the date I placed the order. Don't waste your money on this one.

Taylor I have only managed to review the first two chapters and the introduction. That was more than enough to make a clear decision about this book. Ms. Stevens has no idea what she is talking about, as is quite evident in the following statement: "Lye (chemically know (sic) as sodium hydroxide) is a liquid alkaline obtained by leeching (sic) ashes and adding it in water to turn it into a liquid element. This chemical is highly toxic and is fatal to your body." WHAT? First, it would be "chemically known as..." NOT "chemically know as..." Second, it would be "leaching" NOT "leeching." (BTW: Leeching is a term commonly referring to someone "benefiting from something or someone but giving nothing in return" as in the nasty little blood suckers. Hmm, like this book, perhaps?)POTASSIUM hydroxide (KOH) is formed by leaching ashes. You cannot use potassium hydroxide to make BAR soap. You can use potassium hydroxide to make liquid soap. You must use SODIUM hydroxide (NaOH) to make bar soap. Neither SODIUM HYDROXIDE nor POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE are elements. They are chemical compounds made up of combinations of elements (Na = sodium, O = oxygen, H = hydrogen) (K = potassium, O = oxygen, H = hydrogen).The Material Safety Data Sheet for NaOH does NOT state anywhere that the substance is "highly toxic" and "fatal to your body." What it does state is it is a "corrosive, hygroscopic substance that MAY cause serious respiratory tract irritation with possible burns." So, use appropriate protective clothing, goggles and don't breathe the fumes! Contrary to what Ms. Stevens states in her introduction, you do not need to "wear latex clothes, gloves and overalls. Cover your head too with any form of latex clothing." (Uhm, I guess you should just wear a giant condom when you soap?)"Wear Protective goggles! - Lye causes blindness and disintegration of your retina." REALLY? Your retina? Ms. Stevens, do you even know WHAT a retina is, let alone WHERE it is? In order for the lye to REACH the retina, it will have to disintegrate the conjunctiva, the cornea, the lens, the sclera, the fovea and the macula. By the time it hit the conjunctiva, you would be screaming and sticking your head under the faucet for 10 minutes. If it got to the cornea, you'd be on your way to the hospital."Use a room away from your immediate house - Don't use the kitchen or spare bedroom or even the garage. Also avoid the basement as there is not a lot of ventilation there. If you must assign a room in your home, ensure that the door is completely sealed...Do not allow frequent access as the more the door opens the more the poisonous gasses will spread throughout the house. Do not come in contact with anyone at least 12 hours after you make the soap! - This is just to prevent you from spreading it from one person to another. Make sure you wash yourself completely and use an acidic substance to neutralize any remaining lye (such as vinegar)." NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. ONE THOUSAND TIMES NO. The fumes dissipate quickly once the lye is mixed with the water (or what ever liquid you are using.) I mix my solution on my stove top with the range hood exhaust going full blast to pull the noxious odors away. Once the lye is dissolved, the fumes have been dissipated and I can move the container to my work surface. If you spill lye (or batter) on your skin, immediately rinse with cool tap water ONLY. You are suffering from a chemical burn. If you put vinegar (acetic acid) on your skin, you will be putting acid on a chemical burn. The acid will react with the lye, creating heat and a new chemical called sodium acetate. It will also burn your skin a lot more. If you burn your skin on the stove, are you going to reach for the vinegar or the lemon juice? NO. You're going to run it under cold water. Do the same thing for a lye burn. ESPECIALLY for a lye burn - or ANY chemical burn. Don't compound the problem by introducing another chemical into the mix.She asks why one needs such a dangerous chemical to make soap and answers her question by responding: "the chemical is responsible for hardening and creating the glycerin which helps forms the soap." What the heck is that supposed to mean? Soap is the sodium or potassium salt of a fatty acid. Glycerin is a by-product of the process, which is called saponification. The lye reacts with the fats to form soap and glycerin. You must have lye to make soap. End of story.She gives instructions to create soap; however, she never once in the chapters I read tells you to refer to a soap (lye) calculator to verify the amount of lye versus the amounts of fats and oils. She never mentions the SAP values of the fats and oils. She gives "simple" recipes for you to try at home without giving detailed instructions to create the soap. She refers you to follow the instructions in the previous chapter. Again, never once does she refer you to a soap calculator or mention SAP values. To make it worse, she introduces pureed foods into her recipes without explaining how they behave in soap. She also switches from fats and oils with lye to (Recipe 6) "goat milk soap base or you can use Shea Butter base" AND STILL LISTS LYE as an ingredient. News flash: "soap base" is melt and pour. It is pre-made soap. You do not use lye when you are using this product. In recipe #6, the "Lemon Flavored Soap" the ingredients are six drops of lemon essential oil, 3-4 dried lemon zests, 1/2 cup of the aforementioned soap base and "Mandatory ingredients: Lye and filtered or distilled water." That's it. No amounts of lye and filtered water. And more important, NO INSTRUCTIONS ON WHAT TO DO WITH THIS STUFF.This woman should be ashamed of herself. If anyone has actually purchased this book, demand your money back. This is the most outrageous and dangerous misinformation I've ever read regarding making soap. And trust me, I've read a lot of misinformation.Please, please, please do not purchase this drivel. If you want a good book about making soap, buy Kevin Dunn's Scientific Soapmaking. It is very technical; however, it is the best resource available to learn everything there is to know about making soap, the hows and whys of it. Amazon sells the book. I refer to it constantly. It was worth every penny and then some. Dr. Dunn is known as Dr. McSoapy. If he doesn't have the answer, it doesn't exist. Also, join a soap making forum and talk to people that have made soap for a long time. Do solid research. THIS book is not it.

This is just to prevent you spreading it from one person to another"What kind of idiot writes this crap? The fumes created when mixing lye with water dissipate quickly, there is absolutely NO reason that you should be warning people to not come into contact with other people for 12 hours.And warning people to "Make sure you wash yourself completely and use an acidic substance to neutralize any remaining lye (such as vinegar)" is even stupider!Anyone who knows even the most basic chemistry knows that when Lye comes into contact with Vinegar it creates a substantial amount of heat and by the time it's actually neutralized anything, the person with Lye on them is going to end up with more than just the chemical burn they were going to get because of the added heat. Rinse with cold water and get some common sense.

Karma, Karma Chameleon By Diana Faillace Von Behren Every once in a while a good audio book provides me with the motivation I need to spur on my daily cardio exercise. When I saw M. J. Rose's "The Reincarnationist" available as a download for my iPod, the type of story (thriller), its theme (reincarnation) and its overall length seemed to fit the bill.I wasn't disappointed--not really although the reader's usage of the same Italian accent for both male and female players did grate on my nerves somewhat. Ms Rose tries extremely hard to provide her reader (in this case, listener) with a plotline filled with the inevitable twists and turns necessary to categorize "The Reincarnationist" as a tale of suspense. As I am not aware if Rose herself has a belief in the complicated and controversial topic of reincarnation, I trust she has a healthy interest in it as she explores it in a meandering questing manner through the burgeoning enlightenment of her main character, photographer Josh Ryder that suggests like most of us she has more questions than answers.Josh seems to be a believer, or is he? After a near collision with death during the detonation of a terrorist bomb, Josh is endowed with the ability to see auras over the heads of certain subjects as he views them through his camera lens. Although he cannot capture this nimbus effect on film, he does sense that it is indicative of a vital mystery of which he specifically needs understanding. In the same sense, sadly, Rose does not imbue Josh with any great insight regarding the hows and whys of reincarnation. He muddles along attempting to understand what is happening to him, but like Rose or anyone else, never quite puts it all together.To move the story along, Rose increases the frequency of his fugue states--blackouts of a sort where he actually finds himself reliving an event in a different time from the vantage point of another body. When he isn't in the modern day, Josh inhabits the body of the pagan priest Julius, who in 391 AD is compelled by the mandate of the Emperor Theodosius the Great to cease and desist from practicing his religion and embrace only Christianity. Julius, bound in a passionately intense relationship with Sabina, a vestal virgin, knows all too well that the discovery of their forbidden affair means that his lover could be buried alive. Driven by a disastrous spiraling of events that puts everything he holds dear in jeopardy, Julius must concoct a plan of great connivance to save Sabina, himself, and the supernatural treasure trove the vestals have been guarding since their inception. Rose does a magnificent job of recreating this time period; her descriptions of temples, the life of the vestals, their terror with regard to the encroaching threat of Christianity makes for a thoroughly believable reenactment.Unfortunately, this is not the case for the present day story that contains so many extra characters whose tales are told from a bewildering third person perspective, that the reader (listener) wonders just what purpose they serve in the overall scheme of things. Encumber this with a murder, a theft and a kidnapping that diverts the audience from the main theme of reincarnation to pursue a rather mundane mystery of which the perpetrator is known pretty much from the start of the novel. Multiply the complexity of all this with characters that also have past lives and we encounter a veritable labyrinth of intrigue that perpetuates to the nth power. Well, maybe not to that extreme, but believe me, many of the author's seemingly helpful additions merely lead to a bird's nest of confusion rather than yielding any epiphanies regarding reincarnation.The main thrust remains the increasingly recurring and more detailed memories of the priest Julius which Josh analyzes with the help of the Phoenix Foundation, an organization headed by the intriguing Malachai Samuels, a man desperate to experience the flashbacks of remembrance first hand. Dispatching Josh to sniff out information regarding the legendary Memory Stones of ancient Egyptian origin found at the site of a dig on the outskirts of Rome, he craves to at least see the artifacts so that he can not only careen backwards with his soul in time but, become the master controller of the power that the stones contain.During his Roman holiday, Josh concludes that he is searching for the lost Sabina, reincarnated now in the present day. Perhaps he can fulfill his karmic duty, shrug aside the failures of the past and save her, the stones and recapture his own sanity. As he races from Rome to New York, thwarting the Italian police, amazingly wealthy men who make it their business to acquire artifacts legitimately or not and flustered souls reborn from the past hell-bent on accomplishing what they did not succeed lifetimes ago, he eventually reaches a too-fast climatic cliffhanger of an ending that makes sense, but ultimately seems a fast and easy conclusion that does not provide the insight that this reader desired.Bottom line? M.J. Rose's "The Reincarnationist" is an ambitious novel that keeps the pages turning, but in the long run fails to deliver a complete and satisfying story. Much of the prose seems over done, as is the inclusion of so many miscellaneous characters whose motives are never quite explained from a virtual timeline perspective. The main player remains mystified to the very end, and even then his moment of revelation seems underdeveloped and he, not accepting of his fate. Great Concept, Middling Execution By Thriller Lover I wanted very much to enjoy THE REINCARNATIONIST, but I had some serious problems with it.While some reviewers have openly compared this novel to THE DA VINCI CODE, I felt that THE REINCARNATIONIST was not nearly as well plotted. For the most part, this novel lacks a real sense of narrative drive. Whatever you think of Dan Brown's writing skills, he knows how to produce a novel with a tight plot and a lightning fast pace. THE REINCARNATIONIST's pace is largely placid, with a multitude of flashbacks that slow the action down even further.An even more serious problem with THE REINCARNATIONIST is the characterization, which lacks depth. Throughout this novel, Rose repeatedly jumps from character to character, and from time period to time period, and I couldn't care less about any of the major players in the story. Josh Ryder, the main character in this book, is something of a cypher. He has very little personality outside of his reincarnation memories, and I didn't find him even remotely interesting as a person.Lastly, this book teaches nothing new about the concept of reincarnation. The whole novel's plot revolves around a set of "Memory Stones" that may allow the holder to reach back to their past lives. But as Rose admits in her afterword, these stones are a complete fiction and have no historical basis in fact. So if you're expecting to learn something new and profound about reincarnation, lower your expectations.Rose does do a good job, however, of painting a picture of Ancient Rome and how the pagan religions operated during that time. I thought the flashback scenes in 391 AD were the best and most interesting part of the novel. I wish she had spent more time on this aspect of the plot, as opposed to the less interesting modern-day story.In short, THE REINCARNATIONIST has some interesting and clever moments, but I just didn't find it particularly suspenseful or compelling. I would recommend this novel only to people with a strong pre-existing interest in the subject matter it explores.

About the Author

Sue Pelletier is an artist, mother and teacher, not always in that order. She has taught elementary school art in Dover, MA for 25 years. She has been published several times in Cloth Paper Scissors, as well as Somerset Studio and various other Stampington magazines. Sue's artwork has been on four magazine covers. She also has two DVD's out with Interweave, featuring textural surfaces and innovative ways to use mediums in your art. Sue teaches a few online classes and teaches internationally with large mixed media venues such as Create and Art Is You, as well as smaller more intimate venues in studios and shops around the country. She has also been a guest columnist for Create Mixed Media.

13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. So Fun and Accessible By L. Mallette I first learned of Sue when I read the blog of a lady who had taken two classes with her. WOW, did I love the work and wished I could have been there. This book is the next best thing. Sue doesn't waste time and try our patience by writing long paragraphs about the materials as though we are neophytes who just woke up yesterday not knowing what a paintbrush does. She jumps right in with fabulous ideas and techniques and examples that get you excited about the possibilities. Better yet, she does not present only art that someone with exceptional skill and long years of practice can achieve. These pieces are do-able by anyone and the results are fun and fantastic!I have only read halfway through this book and already completed two pieces; just couldn't wait! Thanks so much for the inspiration, Sue. I hope to take a class with you in "real life" soon.

The "at home mom/dad" will find great projects to fit all ages. The beginning artist and the seasoned artist will find projects that inspire, challenge and thrill them. And, anyone who ever longed to try an art project but was afraid to do it, BUY THIS BOOK AS YOU WILL GET HOOKED ON THE PROJECTS AND FALL IN LOVE WITH ART! The author has a gift for easy to follow directions leading to a stellar result! There is a material list, a great introduction, awesome, hand drawn pictures and it is truly a really "fun read". You feel like the author is talking to you, personally, and by the way, she likes you! This is my first Amazon review for any product, yet I always read the reviews and buy accordingly. You buy this book and you will fall in love with it. Pure and simply, it is awesome.... yes it is!

About the Author

David Nahmani (Valley Village, CA) co-produced a song on the last Pop Will Eat Itself album, and worked with hit producer Toby Gad (Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Robin Thicke, Fergie). He co-wrote and co-produced songs for the MTV series The Real World and Undressed. He engineered and produced three classical albums on Decca Records/BMG for the Bernard Calmel Orchestra in Paris, France; released tracks and remixes on Cleopatra Records; and, using Logic Pro, has programmed XF MIDI songs for Yamaha. David is the director of the Los Angeles Logic Pro User Group and publisher of LogicProHelp.com. As an Apple-certified trainer, he conducts Logic workshops out of his Los Angeles training center. Intuitive explanations and examples make it an extremely quick, efficient way to gear up for Logic X's new and improved features. However, 10.2 came out just as I received the book and there are a lot of updates to be made to perform 10.1 drills with 10.2 on your computer. The author has created all of the errata to update the book, and there is a lot of updating, but I'm left wishing that there is a Logic Pro X 10.2 book instead. In all fairness, if a 10.2 book is available, 10.3 may be released and we may be back where we started. It seems that Logic Pro X version releases and How-To books are just not well coordinated.

If however you're a collector, historian, or just appreciate fine old world war 2 weapons, you need to pass this one by. It's a short guide on how to turn a $150 rifle into a $80 rifle

A Marginal List of Online Videos That is Far From Complete By Hemlock If you read this, or any of the other similar books Mike Francis has released, you'll spend a lot of your time on YouTube and online forums. You see, these books don't really contain much information, they contain links to the information already available online. In the second chapter, "What to Look for in a Mosin," the meat of the chapter is links to three YouTube videos on what to look for in a Mosin.The author has done little or no proof reading, and does not have a solid command of the English language. The videos in chapter two are introduced with the text "Here is a link some additional videos on the same topic:" Other phrases in this chapter include "Here in American.." and "You can check it with you light,..." I might believe the second to be a typo, but the sentence continues with "and also run you little finger..." These simple errors make it hard to accept the other information in the book as legitimate.The size of this book is also nowhere near long enough to provide much useful information. Page sizes are awkward, a normal book page runs about 250 words, pages in this book are half that length. The entire book is about 7,500 words, a long magazine article or blog post at best. If you can't find the information in this book on Google, go ahead and buy this, or any of Mike Francis' other similar books. Otherwise, save your money and get something that's worth spending it on.

This is basically a long essay singing the praises of a very good, very old, and fairly effective military rifle. A buyers guide? It doesn't even begin to list the various models, much less what to look for, what might be an investment or what might make a good shooter. There is no mention of various after market items that can turn an average shooter into something much more accurate. No mention of ammunition except to say that military ammo is cheap and readily available. The military ammo is also restricted from many public rifle ranges. There is however a fairly good selection of hunting and target ammo's out there. The length of pull on the military stock is notoriously short due to design requirements. No mention of fairly inexpensive commercial stocks that correct that. Save your money.

I have taken in hand to write this, the history of my life, not without much misgiving of heart; for my memory at the best is a bad one, and of many things I have no clear remembrance. And the making of tales is an art unknown to me, so he who may read must not look for any great skill in the setting down. Yet I am emboldened to the work, for my life has been lived in stirring times and amid many strange scenes which may not wholly lack interest for those who live in quieter days. And above all, I am desirous that they of my family should read of my life and learn the qualities both good and bad which run in the race, and so the better be able to resist the evil and do the good. My course, by the will of God, has had something of a method about it, which makes the telling the more easy. For, as I look back upon it from the vantage ground of time, all seems spread out plain and clear in an ordered path. And I would but seek to trace again some portion of the way with the light of a dim memory. I will begin my tale with a certain June morning in the year 1678, when I, scarcely turned twelve years, set out from the house of Barns to the fishing in Tweed. I had escaped the watchful care of my tutor, Master Robert Porter, the curate of Lyne, who vexed my soul thrice a week with Cæsar and Cicero. I had no ill-will to the Latin, for I relished the battles in Cæsar well enough, and had some liking for poetry; but when I made a slip in grammar he would bring his great hand over my ears in a way which would make them tingle for hours. And all this, mind you, with the sun coming in at the window and whaups whistling over the fields and the great fish plashing in the river. On this morn I had escaped by hiding in the cheese-closet; then I had fetched my rod from the stable-loft, and borrowed tackle from Davie Lithgow, the stableman; and now I was creeping through the hazel bushes, casting, every now and then, a glance back at the house, where the huge figure of my teacher was looking for me disconsolately in every corner. The year had been dry and sultry; and this day was warmer than any I remembered. The grass in the meadow was browned and crackling; all the foxgloves hung their bells with weariness; and the waters were shrunken in their beds. The mill-lade, which drives Manor Mill, had not a drop in it, and the small trout were gasping in the shallow pool, which in our usual weather was five feet deep. The cattle were stertling, as we called it in the countryside; that is, the sun was burning their backs, and, rushing with tails erect, they sought coolness from end to end of the field. Tweed was very low and clear. Small hope, I thought, for my fishing; I might as well have stayed with Master Porter and been thrashed, for I will have to stay out all day and go supperless at night. I took my way up the river past the green slopes of Haswellsykes to the wood of Dawyck, for I knew well that there, if anywhere, the fish would take in the shady, black pools. The place was four weary miles off, and the day was growing hotter with each passing hour; so I stripped my coat and hid it in a hole among whins and stones. When I come home again, I said, I will recover it. Another half mile, and I had off my shoes and stockings and concealed them in a like place; so soon I plodded along with no other clothes on my body than shirt and ragged breeches. In time I came to the great forest which stretches up Tweed nigh to Drummelzier, the greatest wood in our parts, unless it be Glentress, on the east side of Peebles. The trees were hazels and birches in the main, with a few rowans, and on the slopes of the hill a congregation of desolate pines. Nearer the house of Dawyck were beeches and oaks and the deeper shade, and it was thither I went.

About the Author John Buchan, one of Alfred Hitchcock's favorite writers, was a Scottish diplomat, barrister, journalist, historian, poet and novelist. He published nearly 30 novels and seven collections of short stories. He was born in Perth, an eldest son, and studied at Glasgow and Oxford. In 1901 he became a barrister of the Middle Temple and a private secretary to the High Commissioner for South Africa. In 1907 he married Susan Charlotte Grosvenor and they subsequently had four children. After spells as a war correspondent, Lloyd George's Director of Information and Conservative MP, Buchan moved to Canada in 1935. He served as Governor General there until his death in 1940. Sir Thomas Dalyell Loch of The Binns, 11th Baronet—better known as Tam Dalyell—was an MP in the House of Commons from 1962 to 2005, first for West Lothian and then for Linlithgow. He became Father of the House after the 2001 General Election, was a Member of the European Parliament from 1975 to 1979 and a member of the Labour National Executive from 1986 to 1987 for the Campaign group.

Burns Zoe Gifford is a twenty year old American heiress who has agreed to a "marriage of convenience" to a British aristocrat in order to gain access to her late father's fortune. The marriage to Sebastian Hazelton is supposed to be short-lived - once Zoe gets her millions the penniless Sebastian gets his settlement and a speedy divorce will follow.When Zoe arrives in England and meets Nigel Hazelton (Sebastian's older brother and the Duke of Langford), she has second thoughts about marrying Sebastian. Nigel has never completely recovered from his service in WWI, nor is he ready to embrace the changes that the 1920's are bringing to his staid and antiquated way of life. There's a mutual attraction between Nigel and Zoe, but is it enough to overcome their significant differences?I have mixed feelings about this book: I liked the first third, found the middle third boring and had to force myself to finish the final third. I'm not going to reveal any significant plot points, but there may be some small "SPOILERS" contained in the following review.Part One: "Hello Mary Sue, good-bye Sebastian"I really enjoyed the beginning of the book. The period details about 1922 England and the setting of Brideswell Abbey were interesting. Nigel's reaction to Zoe is entertaining and there's some clever back-and-forth between the two. I did a fair amount of eye-rolling when the Hazelton clan starts discarding deeply entrenched beliefs within two weeks of Zoe's arrival - apparently they were just waiting for a 20 year old American to charm then into the 20th century. Despite Zoe being a bit of a Mary Sue I thought this portion of the story had a lot going for it.Part Two: "Wash, Rinse & Repeat"Once Zoe and Nigel get together we start going round in circles. Nigel can't spend the night in Zoe's bed because he has terrible nightmares (flashbacks from the war). This is a BIG deal to Zoe, almost insurmountable and we get to hear about it for about 100 pages. And when Zoe's not happy, she declares "I must be alive! I must dance to Jazz music and fly airplanes!". Basically she's an annoying twit and Nigel acts like an octogenarian. Cue multiple misunderstandings (that all sound the same).Part Three: "Are we done yet?"The last part of the story devolves into melodramatic slapstick. Zoe's illogical thinking "I'll create a scandal so Nigel will set me free!" and the "I'm going to fly around the world!" subplot are just ridiculous (and actually that last one never even gets off the ground...bad pun intended). Zoe finally finds freedom thru wearing a two piece bathing suit and Nigel dislodges that stick that's wedged up his posterior by dancing in a fountain. Cue the sappy and predictable happy ending.Summary: This simply did not work for me. I think if you cut about 150 pages and slapped a title like "The Penniless Duke's Scandalous American Bride" on it you'd have a decent "Harlequin Presents" category Romance. I thought the writing was competent but after a promising start the whole thing begins to unravel. If Amazon allowed half-stars I'd rate this 2.5, but since they do not I'll nudge it up to 3. This will probably appeal more to fans of the HP line.I don't recall any strong language. There is some moderate sexual content (nothing I'd consider "explicit").

She's a woman who wants to live life to the fullest and everyday is an adventure for her. Unfortunately, because of a stupid thing her mother does, she is forced to marry quickly, to a man she doesn't love.I knew as soon as Mr. Darcy - I mean Duke Langford entered the picture, he would win both Zoe and I over in no time at all.What surprised me most of all about this book is the scope of the story. Most romances end at the wedding, but the love affair is resolved pretty early in the book. Their relationship is hot before vows and screeches to a halt after. I think this fact disturbed me more than Zoe and although she thinks a lot about it, she doesn't act like she's known to do. Normally, this would kill it for me in a story, but for some reason I was able to let her character change in this way while I watched. Although she is forward and has that American sass, she is truly uneducated in the ways of love and so perhaps she would back down when faced with a new marriage in which she doesn't get what she wants.I had a hard time continuing to like the Duke as he "withheld" from her. He was so free and exciting with her before the marriage and then suddenly a cold fish. Only his frequent reassurances kept me off the fence.There is one part of this book that was so depressing, I had to quit reading for a few days. It was written well and with so much emotion, the writing really affected me. I was so wrapped up in Zoe's life, I felt too close, like I was there next to her as her life stood still and took a depressing turn. I started to get mad at Zoe for not popping out of it and demanding her way.Parts of this book are so good, I stayed up, losing sleep because I had to know what would happen next. I do feel the book is a little uneven, with hot, heavy-duty romantic love for the first half and then sudden dismal reality for the middle. Like I said, this book runs the course of a life instead of the regular romance formula. I liked the scope, but it did give me pause when I didn't know quite were it was leading me.Sebastian's secret was a little iffy. Not what it was, but how characters reacted to it. I think Zoe's view was right, but I don't think the Duke would have been as accepting, especially during this time period. Although much of this book takes place in England, it does travel to the US and embrace the 1920's young Hollywood scene.It was exciting to find out exactly what the Duke would do and how Zoe would react in the end. The ending sewed up things nicely and left me with a satisfied read, which I wasn't sure would happen.

I've got to first start this review by mentioning that it is quite a rarity I read historical fiction, whether it be romance or not, I think my last historical was Outlander and before that Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell!Well all I can say is WOW, I absolutely loved this book from start to finish and it is the FIRST book I have EVER read set in the 1920's.God I loved Zoe! What a breath of fresh air she must and have been! Everyone pretty much drawn to her magnetic outrageous ways. What I think impressed me the most is how Sharon absolutely time warped back to the 1920 and I could envisage everything! I could see the water inside the building from the cold and damp, I could see the plane with it's stilts, I could see the fields and lake surrounding Brideswell. I was jiving in the speakeasys and I was often reeling from the way Zoe was often suppressed.This book put me through many emotions but I honestly did not expect to be bawling my eyes quite like I did at a certain part. Oh my Lord I felt every single element of Zoe and Nigel dripping off the pages which matched my eyes when that happened.I am definitely going to be reading more from the pen of Sharon Page, as by crikey this woman knows how to pen a first class read. Her writing is world class as far as I am concerned, she had done her research, the vernacular used was also an aide in transporting me through time, the idiosyncrasies of some of the characters were perfect and the whole deliverance of this what can only be described as a mini saga was brilliant in my eyes.I loved every minute of my time with An American Duchess. I was so lucky to receive a copy of this book (thanks Chas ☺) in return for an honest review. My reviews are my own and are 100% honest.

A pleasing Victorian read By Amazon Customer I discovered "Dr Nikola" through a cameo in another story, and it is always nice to find a couple of free novels to add to the reading list.I started with the first "A Bid for Fortune", then "Dr Nikola's Experiment" and finally this one.These three all worked well on my app (Kindle App on Android). There are a couple of others, but the free versions demonstrated formatting issues on my app. I will probably look out for a paid version of the others with corrected formatting.The 'Experiment' story presents Nikola more as a doctor / scientist than the criminal / occultist of the first tale.

A down on his luck doctor is the other major character, and after travelling around the world, he looks for help from an old acquaintance. This man knows Nikola, who is in need of such a surgeon. However, the Chinese assassin is still on Nikola's trail.A long voyage happens, to a castle, where love blooms and some rejuvenation experiments happen upon an old man, with only partial success. The assassin gets the castle owner, a friend of Nikola, but not our two main characters.

I take the book with me when I fly; it really cuts the stress of traveling. I have to admit there is something simple and comforting about having colored pencils in your hands and deciding which colors to pick for different areas. Honestly the illustrations could be framed and hung even with no color.

This is not only an informative, nearly step-by-step instruction book, the author refers to a plethora of other resources necessary for those would begin work in this field. Compared to the entrepreneurs I have spoken with in person in this field, the author is on par if not above par with them all. Very knowledgeable of economics, customer service, time management, canine/human relations, the practical, etc.
