The characters are well-developed and endearing. Vignettes of colorful escapades are written in a delightfully humorous tone keeping the reader entertained thought out.

Once a Hero teaches history and new vocabulary words for your child which are explained in a way that are easily understood. Once a Hero is one those books that you don't won't to put down because you want to know what the next page is going to bring. I would recommend this book to all kids and adults who are looking for something to read together or by themselves.

I really loved the approach the author used in telling this incredible story in an entertaining and educational way. As a history buff, I was delighted to learn this incredible story; as a human being, I was filled with wonder and hope. This is a story that needs to be embraced by all who believe in freedom, the indomitable human spirit, and the power of hope and love that our relationship with animals brings us. I highly recommend this book. Honestly, Scholastics should pick this one up!
