Twins Paolo and Carlo Cavaleri are inseparable and share everything as they've done for their entire lives. When tragedy strikes, the other must continue alone. Carlo buries himself in his work as a wine broker, his grief submerging the other facets of his life. Then the Fates intervene, setting the stage for the twins to share one last adventure. Carlo wakes up in the middle of a battlefield with Paolo as his comrade in arms. As a rational man, Carlo knows it's only a dream, but it teaches him one of life's basic truths. As long as he keeps Paolo alive in his memories, they will both fulfill their destinies. Not even the antagonism between Carlo and Andiana Allegretti, the daughter of the mysterious owner of an abandoned vineyard near his parent's winery, can dim the experience. Will Carlo's destiny include Andiana...or must he find another path? A bronze and silver Roman phalera may hold the answer.

Review "Robbi Perna has a very solid writing style that helped to expose the characters in different ways. I felt as though I was allowed to get to know all of them on a more personal level, which let them endear themselves to me. The descriptions are great, and Perna has an eye for the details of sights, sounds, tastes, and smells that just let you sink into the story like a warm bath. There was romance here, but it was an undertone. The main focus really was sibling bonds and brotherly love and I think we can all get behind that."Comments from a review by Katelyn Hensel for Readers' Favorite
From the Author The Florida Writers Association honored me with its coveted Royal Palm Literary Award for my book, "The Roman Phalera," at its annual award banquet on October 17. The book released electronically in 2014 and in print this year, is a work of fiction. Dedicated to my late brother, Paul, the novels tells the story of twin brothers, one a doctor, one a vintner, are close until tragedy strikes. Carlo, the remaining brother, struggles to survive the death of his brother while an attractive neighbor distracts him until a dream changes his life. One hundred twenty-one judges from the U.S. and abroad reviewed entries in thirty-two categories, the majority of which were book-length. My entry was one of three hundred, ninety-three entries received in this year's competition.

It’s my first book by this author, but it won’t be the last. She begins the story by describing a family vineyard in California through the eyes of Carlo Cavaleri, one of the owners’ sons. I immediately found myself in the story—seeing, hearing, smelling, everything Ms. Perna pointed out.It explores the bond that exists between brothers whose connection is even stronger than usual, because they are twins. It was very touching to see it unfold. They two men share a sixth sense about each other which causes Carlo’s near death when Paolo meets an untimely end. In the following weeks, Carlo is lost and does not want to go on living without his brother, when a strange dream and a trip to Rome begin to bring things into perspective. While I’m not usually a fan of contemporary books, I found this one to be a unique blend of history, romance and the paranormal, and the unexpected surprise at the end put a neat twist on the story.
